1. Absolutely no surprise there.
Edited on Mon Mar-07-11 06:20 PM by Akoto
He has made quite a few TV appearances since all this began, and he just seems very off. Saying strange stuff, constantly shifting and twitching about, obvious lack of even decent judgment.

As I said in a post weeks ago, he also needs to get some perspective. It was reported that he'd return to the show in exchange for a huge pay raise, but what he was already making for *one* episode would sustain my descendants and I for our entire lives.

2. I understand that.
But that is not my actions or choice, even if I understand it.

And I am still due beer and travel money and many experiences.

3. To be honest
I feel really, really bad for the rest of the cast's performers and production team. The performers are all top-notch, and they're losing their livelihood over this shit. Perhaps they can change it to "Two Men and One Out." And "Charlie" has died, and his ashes strewn over Malibu Beach, and his fortune has been inherited by his brother, and they take over the house and all. Since anyone pretty much knows abour Sheen's situation (and if you haven't, you've been living under the proverbial rock), the show will remain light and no one is going to get melancholy over his disappearance, except for perhaps Rose, and that will disappear in her next therapy session.

6. And yes
the show was initially about "Charlie" corrupting his nephew, but that was so long ago, the show got caught up in the whole real-life world of Sheen, and was at a point where they relied on Sheen too much for there to be a viable option to change the show into another direction. Maybe now they can do what needs to be done.

8. You need a more absurd way of getting "rid" of Charlie.
Like he found God and went to live in an Ashram in India. Allen takes in his freeloading cousin/playboy...enter John Stamos.

Killing him off is not the right thing to do. People have to realize that Charlie is really sick. Like his Dad said, it's like cancer. He needs to have the opportunity, if he chooses, to get well and be hired back. In their explanation, CBS stated that one of the reasons for being fired was that he was very sick.

I've watched a lot of "Intervention" (in fact, it's on tonight on A&E at 8:00) and many addicts are way nastier and more disgusting than Charlie and not nearly as entertaining. Their families always forgive them because they know that it was the addiction that caused the craziness.

In the meantime...I think he's a riot! I was among the first million on his twitter page.

17. How much blame belongs on Charlie and how much on Warner Brothers?
Charlie has a valid point in that if he shows up to work, hits hit lines, does a good job, they should stay out of his private life. I understand the coke was getting to be a problem for both Charlie and their PR a couple months back. But if the dude has quit it - shows up sober, clean drug test, does his job - I dunno man. Ultimately it is WB's show and their call but I wonder how much of their actions was to please their mainstream america audience when Charlie is taking an approach to things that is soooo not mainstream? (Over 2 million twitter followers now.) I dunno - I agree it's a bad situation I just have a hard time blaming Charlie totally for it - he's right when he says if he was a rock star this would be accepted as normal.

I predict 2 1/2 Men will go on w/John Stamos. And I think Charlie will end up getting a show on HBO or cable - he's hot right now and somebody is going to want to work with him for sure. Just got his own Sirius X/M channel. In a way he actually is kinda #winning - all depends on one's perspective I guess.

20. Actually, they just need to adopt a young kid to make it two and a half men again,
because the son is already a grown adult.

5. So Sad.
I refuse to celebrate the firing of a man who obviously has addiction and mental health issues.

The next thing we will read about Charlie is "Charlie Sheen found dead...."

What a waste...

7. Charlie Sheen
has been down this road before. In fact, he was one of the few names that was listed from Heidi Fliess's list of clients. He has also gone into rehab several times, and each time, he signed himself out.

I've dealt with substance abuse many times in my family and friends, and it has to be a genuine call for help from the abuser before they can straighten themselves out. It sounds like a myth, but someone really DOES have to hit rock bottom before help will work for them. Sheen had the show and lots of money to fall back on--perhaps now, without the audience, he can recover.

9. I think it's harder for celebrities...
to hit the necessary rock bottom because they have so many enablers. Usually, everyone deserts them and they have nothing, no home, money, etc...that's when they see the light. For people like Charlie, Michael Jackson, Elvis and others...it doesn't get to that point.

11. Yeah, I Hear Ya...
didn't he actually write Heidi a check?

I've had my share of addicts too, and it rarely ends well. I hope his family is able to step in and get him some help, but you're right, "rock bottom" seems a ways away for him.

The only up side of this is that the show sucks, and is a prime example of the low bar on network TV.

12. It's kind of sad how bad TV has gotten.
My all time favorite was "Seinfeld" and even though it was a show about nothing, each show was distinctively different. Each had an original story, a variety of odd characters and different settings, including a lot of outdoor settings. The current shows all run together. I can't even tell if I've seen it before or not.

16. There's plenty of good TV out there.
Yeah Seinfeld was a classic. Check out Curb Your Ebthusiasm (about Larry David's post Seinfeld life).

Tired of the same doctor, lawyer, and cop dramas? Check out Psych (about a fake psychic detective), Breaking Bad (a chemistry teacher makes crystal meth to pay for his cancer treatments), Boardwalk Empire (about prohibition-era Altlantic City mob) and The Walking Dead (a realistic look at a zombie apocalypse).

19. Love Them All!
But none are on network!

"Breaking Bad" is a huge hit with us, and "Sons Of Anarchy" (although Biker13 keeps bitching about the shitty bikes the "Sons " ride!)

It seems that these days, you have to go to cable for decent writing. I've given up on network!

I forgot Sons Of Anarchy - the second season was so bad ass. I haven't seen any of the third yet since Dish killed FX while the season was running.

starts slow, too much "save Able", but after that it REALLY rocks! It's the only "must see" TV we watch.

26. I LOVE Curb...
and BIG LOVE...but don't have HBO so have to get creative to watch. The others you mentioned don't have subject matter that would interest me.

I love GLEE too.

I refuse to watch anything crime related which is most of TV. Some dramas and lots of real life stuff.

I had meant that the sitcoms were really bad.

29. The script is as good as it gets
with BB. I never seen a show that gets better with every season(most shows are up-and-down or start out great but move towards average) and I fully expect season 4 to be even better.

What drawn me to the show was Stephen King calling it the "best scripted show on television" and after watching, I agree 100%.

27. Shows that lost a main character and went on to be successful:
Edited on Tue Mar-08-11 06:49 AM by RichGirl
Bewitched - the husband character Darren played by two different actors

Roseanne - one of the daughters played by two actors

Threes Company - Suzanne Somers fired and replaced by less blonde, less dumb actors

Mash - Trapper John charactor replaced by BJ character

Cheers - the Shelly Long character replace by Kirstie Alley.

In many shows...too many to mention, a very popular character would leave and be given a spin off show.

A popular money making show does not get cancelled, it's gets revamped.

P.S. This whole thing is so sad for Charlie...but so much good humor for the rest of us:
