2. why in the world did they choose co-hosts anyway?
We should just make it a rule that it rotates between comedians who can improvise, instead of relying on stupid scripts. hell, give it to Eddie Izzard next year, he'd be an excellent host.

5. And why was Mo'nique not invited to hand out that last award?
As long as I've watched the Oscar it was always the winners of the previous year acting awards that gave away the award for the opposite sex. Sure there were some exceptions, like with Heath Ledger. But where is Mo'Nique?

11. I agree. I want to like it.
And I do like James and Anne, but something is just not clicking with those two. I, personally, think it is the writing.

Compared to the Golden Globes, this is very sedate and almost boring. Bring on Ricky Gervais.

I've gotten to a point, after all my years, where I don't really give much of a damn about who is hosting. All I ask for is at least one good movie clip montage.

He knew what he was doing and the audience was eating it up. The camera never left him, even when the woman came up to pick up her trophy so it's obvious it was a living tribute. Connecting the past with the present.

20. I think Franco has been a bit underwhelming, but Hathaway hasn't been bad
I think she's been energetic and charming. The musical number was an odd interlude.

The screen setup on stage is very cool, I think. Aside from Kirk Douglas, there hasn't been much particularly memorable, though.

37. I really disagree, I think they did fine
and especially in getting the younger demographic interested, which was the goal and which is necessary. And I've watched the Oscars almost every year for nearly forty of my forty-six years, so I've seen far worse hosts (David Letterman and Chris Rock come immediately to mind).

39. Roger Ebert's tweeted about what he thought of the show tonight:
"I'm even beginning to feel nostalgic about Rob Lowe dancing with Snow White."

http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/whats-alan-watching/posts/oscars-tv-review-anne-hathaway-and-james-franco-host-a-disastrous-academy-awards-telecast

The review from the NYTimes to EOnline have called them a disaster. I appreciated they want to bring in younger viewers (hench the auto-tune Twilight crap) but Franco and Hathaway just sucked the life out of the Oscars tonight. This is the Oscars, not MTV. The auto-tune/Twilight thing took the place of seeing the career of Francis Ford Coppola and personally all people who love movies suffered because of it.

there were some good things about the Oscars but after that opening film it went downhill from there at least when the hosts were on stage. Franco wasn't too bad by himself but he looked like he was annoyed as hell with Hathaway

Some gorgeous dresses, some not so gorgeous (though I don't recall any actual disasters this time), hosts everyone can argue about, an F-bomb, a political statement, a montage, a shocking "In Memoriam" to remind us how damned old we are, an actually pretty good crop of movies, and endless harrassment of Hugh Jackman.

And may I remind you all of more seasoned veterans who did worse hosting jobs..."Uma...Oprah. Oprah...Uma."
