1. Robert Downey Jr. seemed to define lightweight. Then he did "Chaplin"
Incredible talent as long as he can stay sober.

12. That he didn't win the Oscar for Chaplin was a crime
they should go back and give him an award for that.

While they are at it take Louis Gossett Jr.'s back and give it to R. Lee Ermey.

18. I thought Denzel should have won that year
But giving it to Al Pacino was clearly a "sorry we've passed you over so many times" award.

I agree. That was a lifetime achievement award for Pacino. The funniest thing was he really didn't get the Hoo-UH! right.

6. George Clooney
Always thought he was a lightweight bobble-head on ER. Then when he did Solaris, I could see he had real potential. Since then he's proven himself as both an actor AND a director.

And this is going to sound blasphemous, but I wouldn't mind him seeing return to the Batman role in an adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns. I think he could do a really good job with it. It wasn't his fault that his original shot sucked on ice. I blame it on the director, who had no freaking clue what Batman was all about.

10. To date, his only two performances that truly stunned me
Insomnia and One Hour Photo, and for that matter Awakenings was another gem.

Everything else is either recycled Mork (Fisher King, Good Will Hunting) or some variation on the sensitive oddball archetype (Patch Adams, Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society).

20. He surprises me, too- he did a western that he wrote, directed and starred in...
one of the most bizzare westerns of all time, South of Heaven, West of Hell...he also produced it and wrote the music for the soundtrack.

You should see it, but be prepared-it is one of the most wierdly funny films I have ever seen.

I've never cared for Mr. Timberlake's singing but I thought he had definite acting chops when I saw Alpha Dog - and he's got awesome comedic timing as evidenced by his SNL skits. Yes INDEED.

Wait, hear me out.

I think everyone figured he had peaked as Billy Babbit, and he pretty much had, but then he played Doc Cochran in Deadwood and I'm constantly amazed at what a good job he did. He and Ian McShane made Deadwood just brilliant. Well, and everyone else too. The whole cast was great.
