Anybody got any Very Special Lounge vibes to spare?
MG Jr. is running his happenin' homemade Ferrari in his second Cub Scout Pinewood Derby tomorrow. The entire MG family has engineered this year's car to within an inch of its little wooden life, but he's got some tough competition, most notable of which is a rather obnoxious kid with Hummer-driving Republican parents (not that I'm biased or anything ).

Anyway, MG Jr. came in fourth last year when he was only a 6 YO Tiger Cub, losing to a bunch of 11 YO Webelos, and this year he's jonesing for a trophy.

So any Very Special Lounge vibes for speed and for keeping the wheels on the car through a long day of racing down a steep wooden ramp would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Here's a pic of MG Jr. at last year's race:

And here's a pic of this year's car before we got the wheels on (the Hummer next to it won't be raced but will be entered in the "good lookin' car" contest):

TIA, Loungers! :hi:

4. Ohhhh yeah we got graphite
Mr. MG is graphite crazy! (In fact, I have to clean the excess crud off the paint job tomorrow morning. Harumph! x( )

The menfolk also sanded the axles and balanced the wheels very carefully. I wish we could add more weight (the car is 4.8 oz. right now) but any more will push it over the top.

Thanks for the good wishes--it's going to be tough to beat last year's performance--! :hi:

6. Dimes are good glue-on ballast for PWD
About 12 to the ounce. If ballast has to be hidden, solder in a drilled hole is a good metnod.

Yeah, I'm the "paint shop". I do the detail work after the 7 YO lays down the base coats. It's a family effort for sures!

13. Thanks, Cordelia!
We're heading over in about half an hour. The races can take several hours. Wish I had an iPhone instead of just an iPad so I could post updates!

16. Thanks, MFM!
Luckily we have a mostly good batch of kids, which makes it easier to teach him good sportsmanship and supporting others. Just last night one of the Webelos stopped MG Jr. and complimented him on his camo Humvee. Stuff like that. Definitely always a good experience. :hi:
