Okay, ladies: Let's discuss mascara.
For those who still wear makeup, I'm wondering which mascara you use and why. I'm looking for a new brand.

If a cosmetic company could invent a mascara that stayed put till you wanted to wash it off, made lashes look long and full without flaking or rub off, easy to apply, easy on the pocketbook and came in more than two colors, it would be a wonderful thing.

No, it's not world peace, but I really hate buying brands that just don't do it.

3. Questions
Is it easy to take off?

Does it flake or smudge?

I'm currently using Bare Escentuals Flawless Definition Mascara. I'm not thrilled with it; I may have to check out the L'Oreal!

6. I have always used baby oil to take off mascara and I have no problem.
I use the waterproof mascara and it doesn't smudge or flake. Way back when I used to use Maybelline (pink and green) but as I got older my lashed thinned out and it didn't give enough volume. I also like the thicker L'Oreal brush.

I'm also getting some baby oil tomorrow; it sounds easier on the pocketbook than the $16 eye makeup remover I was using.

wrinkle around my eyes. I don't know if baby oil is the reason but it certainly in no way has hurt me.

& if you look at the ingredients of a lot of cosmetic products, including the expensive ones, the main ingredient is petroleum jelly. So I thought, why pay more when I could just use Vaseline? :D

You get a gazillion packettes of them in the Costco package, they last forever and great to have when travelling too. You can use one side on your face and the other on your eyes. No sting and no greasy feeling or bleary/oily eyes! And they don't dry out your skin. I really love that product!!

55. Agreed.
L'Oreal Voluminous Waterproof in Black. I've tried a few other ones, including the high-end brands, & this one is the best! I'm a longtime contact lens wearer & always use waterproof mascara.

To get it off, I use L'Oreal Eye makeup remover for waterproof makeup (the one in the green bottle, available at Ulta for less than $10.)

tried two different stores, in the last couple of years. Two different times there was barely any mascara in the tube, at all. :-( I don't need to try a third time. Cheap or not, it's not worth throwing money away.

If you are buying old stock it could be dried out? Sometimes when I buy the double pack and take too long to get to the second one I notice it is somewhat drier than the first.

it is something about our eyelids / eyes shape that makes us more prone to it? It just happens to me worse and more quickly than I see with other girls. I have long searched too, and I've tried powdering underneath and all sorts of stuff but nothing works. :(

41. Deep-set eyes?
I can picture you as a kid, but not your eyes. My eyes are deep-set and I don't like mascara because it smudges under my eyes. Curling your lashes first can help, if you really want to wear some.

38. I can't wear mascara either
because I'm sensitive to most cosmetics.
However, I discovered an alternative a couple of years ago.
I use dark eye shadow, applied with a very narrow, angled brush, all around my eyes.
I apply it close to the base of the lashes. Mostly I use Maybelline's Sparkly Black, sometimes a dark blue. It makes the eyes look larger and darker without irritating.

5. Maybelline is making a new mascara
called "falsies". It actually has been the best mascara I've used in years!

It makes your lashes appear fuller and longer and it doesn't flake.

It's about nine bucks a tube, kinda expensive for drug store cosmetics but to me it works well. It comes in several colors. Ia m fair so I use a dark brown as opposed to black.

You should try it!

7. Lancôme Définicils
I've tried the others... the ones already mentioned here. They aren't as good (for my super thin, blond tipped eyelashes). The weird thing? The samples are better than the ones you buy. The bad news? Lancôme only has "free gifts" once a year now. :-(

9. I go between two different ones right now.
I use the Cover Girl eye lights mascara. I have it in Black Ruby and Black Sapphire. They are waterproof, but come off easily with an eye makeup remover. I use Rimmel's Eye Makeup Remover.

I also LOVE NYX Doll eyes mascara. It's not terribly expensive, but the color selection isn't varied. It comes off very easy with soap and water.

The L'Oreal Telescopic is nice, but it clumps easily if you don't pay attention, and you really only need one coat. Any more than that and it really clumps on the lashes, but it does give a pretty effect when applied right. Easy to take off as well.

Hope that helps. Also, check YouTube for mascara reviews. There are lots of good reviewers who are very knowledgeable.

I really want to try the new Chanel Inimitable Intense mascara in Rouge Noir, but I can't pay $30 for one tube of mascara.

Good luck on your search!

12. Any brand that's waterproof.
I have this subtle, irrational fear of getting caught in the rain and having mascara run down my face like you used to see on TV for dramatic effect (but it just looked pathetic to me). So it's got to be waterproof. That's about my only requirement. Comes off easily enough with Mary Kay eye makeup remover or plain old cold cream.

14. I don't have the rain problem
I have the raccoon eyes problem. Let's just say I forget I'm wearing mascara and rub my eyes.

One thing's for sure, I have several products to check out at the store tomorrow! Consumer Reports also liked the Lancome, but I throw mine out every 3 months, so $24 isn't working for me. I'm thinking the L'Oreal Volumizer or Telescoping Clean may be the winner, unless I can find a tube of that Boots stuff at Target to try.

:woohoo:

I'm afraid of breaking my lashes if doing it every day so I found out that if I hold the mascara a certain way kid of bending the lashes up at the roots while putting it on? It has a similar effect to the eyelash curler without the clamping.

The cheapo "Great Lash" from Maybelline. IMO it's not the mascara but how you use it. Best to put on one light coat, let it dry and then a little more. I hate sticky, spikey "spider woman" eyelashes!

35. I used to use expensive mascara - now I use Cover Girl lash blast
My eyes are so fricking sensitive that no matter what I pretty much have to toss mascara after 2 months. But since I rarely use Mascara except special occassions I figured it was a waste of money to buy expensive mascara. I've had good luck with Cover Girl products and they have a shade of brown that works well with my look. Usually I wait until Happy Harry's (drugstore here in DE) has it on sale and I'll buy 2-3 tubes of it that will last for about 6 months.

You can look at reviews here.

http://www.makeupalley.com/

You have to create an account to see the reviews. but it's worth it (imo).

I just got a mascara called Full n soft by Maybelline (It got 4 our of 5 stars with 2,811 reviews!!) it does NOT claim to be voluminous or lengthening. I wanted something for a more natural look - basically just to darken my eyelashes. It's not for everyone because I think volume and length are what people look for but give the site a try.

I was recently told this by a salesperson there, and have done it.
I bought a Bronzer for about 12 dollars and the color was awful, returned it with no problem for my money back.
All the old less expensive brands have now become very pricey and this policy enables you to try something you might not otherwise.

mascara??? L'oreal for years.

Anyone remember Max Factor Whipped Creme,? I used Shimmering Bronze,
All max factor is discontinued in the US, bought a few bottles on ebay over a year ago for 20-25 each.
It had sold for 6.99.
Now ebay has the shimmering bronze ..1 bottle, for anywhere from $125.00 to $150.00,yes ladies, you read correctly.
They also could be rancid by now!
