4. It may have been "Detroit" in the story,
but all the buildings, streets and general skyline were in the city that also starts with a 'D' and in a state that starts with a 'T' :P

7. Robocop 2 was filmed in Houston.

There were several places in 5th ward that still had the NUKE graffiti painted on the walls years later. A writer friend of mine ended up as an extra and even got a second or two of screen time. Another friend has the police car door Robocop kicks off. Robocop 2, what a terrible movie.

9. I remember when they filmed it here,
and look for the Houston scenes whenever I happen to catch some of it. I know it wasn't a good movie, but that's why I'll watch ;) That's cool about your friends getting parts in it.

So, the real Detroit gets a statue, but was it ever filmed in Detroit? :P

12. Rocked? Well, the Kane Robot battle was pretty cool.

And one of the last films to use go-motion animation effects. Some of the Robocop puppet effects were pretty cool too.

13. Ah, I was being slightly facetious
Agreed, the ending battle was very cool, and I liked the beta robots. There were some rough moments but overall I think Irvin Kershner did a decent job. It seemed more tongue-in-cheek than the first Robo. I'd stop short at calling it horrible though. Top Gun was horrible.

8. Some of my most awkward moments were from watching Robocop with a family that didn't grasp satire.

16. speaking of statues
Worst. Statue. Ever...

In 1997 in an act of almost unbelievable crassness and bad taste, a statue of Mel Gibson as William Wallace was placed outside the Wallace Monument near Stirling, Scotland, with the word "Braveheart" on Wallace's shield, thus trivializing and kitschifying the memory of Wallace. One local resident stated it was desecrating the main memorial to Wallace with a "lump of crap." In 1998 the Gibson statue was attacked with a hammer, and now, with the word "Freedom" in its plinth, it is protected by a cage at night.

After ten years of constant vandalism it was finally removed and sold to Donald Trump:

18. Wow.
That's wretched. It's almost as obscene as what comes out of Mel Gibson's mouth.

19. Apparently...
Mel was deeply honored by the statue of him. (I wouldn't put it past him to have secretly commissioned it himself.) I swear, that guy is nuts enough that he probably believes he actually defeated the English at Stirling Bridge.
