Has Janeane Garofalo ever been specifically "anti FBI?"
I flipped over to Fox for a minute and O'Reilly was calling her a hypocrite for playing an FBI agent in some new TV show, because she is supposedly anti-FBI in real life. I've never heard about that before. And even is she really hates the FBI, how does her playing an agent make her a hypocrite? It's called acting. O'Reilly is a weird dude.

I've switched backed to M*A*S*H now. :)

1. Why are you torturing yourself by watching this stuff?
Edited on Fri Feb-18-11 07:01 AM by Rhiannon12866
You know that no good can come from it... ;)

I don't even know which channel it's on in my neck of the woods, see more than I want if I tune into MSNBC, or right here on DU. x(

And O'Reilly would probably pick a fight with Mother Teresa, jackass that he is. But you're right, that people will fight over just about anything. I was once looking at the message boards on IMDb and ran across a pretty acrimonious squabble about "Everybody Loves Raymond," of all things. :eyes: Somebody was all pissed off that Peter Boyle, who is Irish, was playing an Italian-American on that show. And other folks were reminding him that this was an actor... I thought I'd seen it all... :hi:

4. That's what I meant about folks being willing to fight about anything...
If they''ll fight about "Everybody Loves Raymond," just imagine if it was something controversial! I once made a post there on a discussion of the movie "Goodnight, and Good Luck." OMG. If you remember, this was considered a "liberal" movie. I got called all kinds of names, to the point that I never did go back. :scared: I feel much safer here on DU, and where I have friends, like you... :hi:

11. I know lots of folks who feel that way.
I used to watch the show because I thought the mother and brother were awfully funny, before I was politically aware... ;)

6. She's perceived as anti-establishment
Edited on Fri Feb-18-11 09:47 AM by Heidi
so I think that's where O'Reilly was going with his hypocrisy smear.

I love Janeane Garofalo. :)

ETA: Janeane said (and was right) on Jan. 23, 2003:
Now, if I as an actor come out for the war, if I am for the war, and very pro-George Bush, I'm a hero. You know, nobody holds my feet to the fire, whether I'm a Mideast policy expert or not. No one asks me to defend my character, my patriotism.

If you are against the war or anti-establishment in any way, you must make an accounting for yourself. You must defend to the n-th degree your standing as an American citizen.

Now, patriotism is defined as love of country. It's not defined as love of militarism or love of government edicts of any kind. You know, unexamined, unintelligent patriotism, you know, my country, right or wrong, love it or leave it, gets us nowhere and results in bad country and western songs.

10. She's an actress...
... and actors are supposed be good at what they do. She must be good because he believes her character.

This would be opposed to Mr. Bill-O, who is supposed to be a talk show on Fox News. I don't think he's ever been convincing as one, though.
