Cat rescued from grate in road in South Berwick

... Workers tried using olive oil to slide the cat through the grate, but that didn't work. So public works and police lifted the grate out of the road with the cat still stuck in it and took it to the South Berwick Veterinary Hospital.

The vet was able to sedate the cat and get it out of the grate. The cat is now recovering and could be back with its owners later today.

2. The messes cats can get into! Poor thing.
How do they get into these situations? But these situations are why we say they have nine lives. I guess this is one life down for this little one.

14. Is that your cat?
I have a Tuxedo Cat that looks very much like that one. Don't know if he would tolerate the truck going over him though!

Sort of a "hey dickhead, put the camera down and help a brother out here" kind of look.

10. that poor kitty, she was stuck there for two days.
http://www.mpbn.net/News/MPBNNewsforVillageSoup/tabid/1144/ctl/ViewItem/mid/3695/ItemId/15233/Default.aspx

A South Berwick veterinarian encountered an unusual case today--a cat that was brought in with a 300-pound sewer grate attached to its head.

Authorities say Boots the cat got it's head stuck in the grate on Highland Avenue in the southern Maine city and was trapped for two days. A passerby finally noticed the trapped feline and called the highway department for help.

After chipping ice away from the grate, crews brought the cat, sewer grate and all, in to Dr. Amanda Rizner at the South Berwick Animal Hospital. "And we extricated the cat from the sewer grate," Rizner says. "She just has some bumps and bruises and she was really cold from being stuck it the sewer grate, so we treated her hypothermia and her bumps and bruises."

Rizner says Boots, a seven-year-old spayed female, was scheduled to return home today and is expected to make a complete recovery.

11. 2 Days? How awful!
It's a good thing that we've had such warm weather these past few days. Still though, that's a long time. Poor Boots! :-(

My, ahem... "social" life is so pathetic that I might willingly get my head stuck in a grate if I knew it would result in a "Happy Ending".
