. . . ...except for the very, VERY end... when Hollywood went for the all-loose-ends-wrapped-up ending rather than the excellent ending Stephen King had for the story. . . Also arguably one of the finest things he has ever written -- and has absolutely NOTHING in common with his usual genre format. . . .
I agree about it being one of the finest movies ever made...
But.
I have to disagree with your take on the ending. I thought it was the logical conclusion to the story.
I won't discuss it since I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen the movie...but I thought the ending caught the spirit of the story perfectly...

after a movie is released to award the best film. By waiting, a movie is allowed to find its audience and the voters don't fall prey to immediate emotions or slick marketing campaigns.
Does anyone remember Forrest Gump? Does anyone remember the film that beat out Brokeback Mountain?
