Lady Gaga arrives at Grammys in giant egg borne by litter-slaves.
I'm beginning to believe she is actually an alien visitor from the planet Derivativus, where mediocrity is upheld as an artistic ideal.

38. Her music doesn't suck. Your dumb-ass music sucks.
Oh wait....perhaps it's subjective.

3. She is the latest in a long line of pop tarts,
Her music is mediocre at best, and has to be propped up with a shitload of spectacle. I imagine that she will go the way of other pop tarts and start a long decline into obscurity, and in ten, fifteen years at the most, people will be wondering what the hell we ever saw in her.

But in the meantime she is laughing all the way to the bank.

34. No way.
She rules!

She has impressive musical talent. The spectacle is added theater (which has helped make her one of the hottest act in show-biz. The (ahem) "spectacle" may not be for everyone's taste, but she is a kick ass singer and player regardless.

35. She's a talentless hack retreading the work of those who came before her,
Her spectacle she is ripping off from Madonna and Grace Jones, her music from Cindy Lauper and Annie Lennox. On top of that, she filter, filter, filters her voice on stage and off.

You can disagree, but frankly I think she's a third rate pop tart who is milking her fifteen minutes for all it's worth.

36. Oh fer dog's sake.
The Rolling Stones ripped off Chuck Berry.......or whomever.

She has a great voice, filtered or unfiltered. She plays the piano nicely as well. I like eggs too.

I'm listening to Zappa right now myself, but GaGa...Oh my, she's awesome!

41. Sure, they ripped off Berry's song,
As did the Beatles and others,

But they didn't rip off Berry's style, his substance. GaGa has done just that, ripped off the style and substance of Madonna, Jones, Lauper and Lennox, taking large chunks from each and making them her own. There is nothing original about her or her act.

As far as her voice goes, how do you know it's great? I mean really, whether she is performing on an album or live, her voice is run through filters, an Autotuner, so that it is smoothed and processed. What comes out the other end isn't her voice, but a facsimile of her voice. Her voice, much like her looks, are primped, processed, and bears only a vague passing resemblance to reality.

Again, this is all subjective, our own personal tastes. You like her, great, good for you. I don't, that's fine also. You stick to admiring GaGa and I'll stick with admiring somebody else.

I imagine we all believe at one time or another that we ourselves posses an infallible sense of taste, and minimize those who think other than what our opinions dictate to better validate our own sense of taste...

4. I dislike Autotuned singers.
Autotune is the worst form of musical cheating - making it so anyone can be turned into a pop singer.

The truth hurts, I know.

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/culture/neilmccormick/8217928/Lady_GaGa_and_Akon_the_mysterious_rise_of_autotune/

Last week, I caught up with Lady GaGa...currently number one all over the world with ‘Just Dance’. Which has, of course, been autotuned to the hilt. But throughout our interview she kept bursting into snatches of song to demonstrate a point, and it was clear she had no trouble hitting whatever notes she wanted. So I asked her why she felt the need to amend her vocals in the studio. “Its not for my voice,” GaGa replied. “The radio is used to a certain perfection and it compresses the voice in a certain kind of way, it smooshes all of the sound together so it sounds smaller but fatter, its not open, very condensed. Unless you are Duffy, where its this extremely organic record, its important to play into the psychology of the listener who is used to a certain sonic quality in the voice. If they don’t hear that, its not hip.”

20. The autotune is fine with me
I like it, especially with dance-pop tunes. As long as the artist can really sing. If the artist can't, then I think it's fraudulent.

28. Good for you. I like actual singing on the albums I listen to.
It's about as phony as Milli Vanilli, and having an artist who can actually sing using autotune makes it even worse.

People like Lady Gaga and Madonna are musical entertainers. I don't knock them for being very good at what they do and that is to entertain.

17. The 'silly shit' is what got her attention and caused her to get so popular
I don't think much of her music--I see here as a second-tier Madonna--and I really think it's the name, costumes, etc. that have made her career (unfortunately).

I remember when she went to Maine to help pressure the senators up there to support the repeal of DADT. She's willing to talk about the important issue wheras too many other popstars just want to party and get drunk.

25. She is an excellent musician with an excellent voice.
I've studied classical music on two instruments (piano and violin) since I was five years old.
That was fifty years ago. I also grew up listening to jazz and rock and roll. I've seen great artists in all the musical fields (except country and rap).

She has far more talent than Madonna will ever think about having.

I don't understand the weird costumes either.

Autotune is EVIL. They compress the frequency range to fit on an MP3. I listen to CDs.

Lady Gaga is also a competent pianist. I watched the Anderson Cooper interview. She is very smart as well.

I'd much rather listen to her stuff than sneering Eminem's rapcrap.

26. She's a performance artist, and I really love performance artists.
I'm not a big dance music fan so I don't have any of her music but she's committed to creating events, and I like that.

I do think it's a dangerous choice, because it can go south on you so fast, and I think the whole being-borne-in-on-a-litter thing is trite, and I think the new song is so like Madonna that she'd better do something really original next time. But, I admire hell out of her for her guts and ability to take risks. And she's fun, which the world is short on these days imho.
