Valentine chocolates.
What do you like?
I find Godiva to be overrated. It's owned by Campbell's I believe.

The best milk chocolate I've ever had was some Suchard my sister brought back from Europe. DAMN!

Best domestically bought stuff I've found was at a Neuhaus store in Houston. Now defunct. It was $30 a pound YEARS ago, but it was fabulous. From Belgium.

At least I can get Choco-Bombs at Walgreen's: Ferrero hazelnut balls.

Oh and I love those chalky Necco wafer hearts!

1. I try to buy organic, fair trade whenever I can.
It keeps children from being sold into slavery on the cocao plantations.

But if you must have domestic, Fanny May and See's are pretty good.

4. 1-800-900-CHOC
Leonidas Belgian chocolate. They have the most wonderful fresh butter creams and their pralines are to die for. When I first bought them 16 years ago they were $19.00 lb, now $36.00 lb. Needless to say a very special treat.

My 2nd pick is Teuscher's Champagne Truffles.

5. I like Day After Valentines chocolates at 75% 0ff.
And my BF knows this. If he bought me a box of over-priced chocolates on VD I'd think he was an idiot.

Sorry but I don't need Hallmark to tell me that there is this one day out of the year that you should let someone know you adore them. You should already be doing that every day.

I also don't fucking want a pink teddy bear with a sappy look on its face clutching a heart...ok?

I know my guy loves me because he remembers how I order a hamburger at Wendy's. He loves me because he will sit through a "movie he has to read" (foreign film.) I love him for watching things like 2Fast 2Furious. I know he loves me because of how he trusts me enough to share with me his hopes and dreams and deepest fears and his bitterest regrets and disappointments.

Valentine's Day is one of the worst holidays out there for cheap tacky crap given as gifts.

I don't want in any way to give or get a cheap tacky pink fuzzy gift. I want my guy to be confident that he is loved everyday. Hallmark doesn't get to tell me I gotta buy some stupid froofroo to prove my love.

Besides. It's the second worst day to Mother's Day to actually try to Go Out somewhere.

6. I gotta give props to a local company here
in Sarasota- try The Chocolate Bark Company. I've had their Sweedish Spice and it's fantastic; and I'm confident that the rest are just as good :)

10. My Dad took me to Neuhaus in Dallas years ago
We had hot chocolate made with their wonderful treat melted down, mixed with milk and served with a wrapped confection. Such a wonderful memory. Best hot chocolate I ever had in my life.

:hi:

13. I usually go to the specialty chocolate shop here and
buy chocolates with curry, chiles, and other different types. Nice if they are fair trade as well.

14. Nearly anything from Belgium or Switzerland.
They might make lesser quality chocolate too, but the stuff that gets imported to the US is quite good.

15. Theo out of Seattle. Uh-freaking-believable.
First, it's ethically produced. Second, they do things with flavor combinations you wouldn't believe (chili and curry are my favorites so far).

But I'm a total sucker for Fran's Salted Caramel Chocolates too. *sigh*
