Big cat drama in the Venation household tonight. Jesus Christ.
One of our problem cats peed in our bed tonight. Her name is Charley and she's semi-feral. If we're in bed she is unafraid and very affectionate. She's been staying in our bedroom in the last few weeks because she is mercilessly picked on. She is happy, everyone else is calmer, and there's all around less drama.

We don't want a litter box in there. Tonight she pawed to get out to go to the litter box, and she came out but was too afraid to go. I figured she'd be okay, she must know herself -- even though she did poop in the bathtub last night (Bertha = slow learner). Tonight, 1:40 AM, she just jumps up into the bed, squats down next to Mrs. V.'s leg, and lets it go.

Panic ensued. Now Mrs. V. is in the guest bedroom, trying to calm down, and here I am on the computer, waiting for the blankets to be finished so I can run the mattress pad, then the sheets. God knows if we can save the bed itself.

Christ, these cats. Our own fault; we couldn't say no too many times.

2. Cats are very emotional. Also, they don't understand things like
we do. They see things differently.
This sounds like a cat that may need to live in a one cat household.
Maybe it would be possible to find a new home for this cat.
When the cats have personality conflict with the group they tend never to resolve them. Particularly if they can retreat from the group.

3. I'm sorry about your troubles Bertha Venation.
But I vote for a covered litter box preferably with a door in the bedroom.
I understand the drawbacks .....But Hey.....Look at the night you just had.

4. She needs privacy and her own litter pan
We have a covered litter box plus two litter pans lined with puppy pads in our bedroom for our neurotic old lady. It's a bit of work keeping it fresh and clean, but beats a cat peeing in bed.

12.  I'm with spinbaby on this. We have Three Cats.
And four covered litter boxes.
And we have to scoop several times a day but thats just part of having cats.LOL!
We went to Target and bought 4 little peddle trash cans with a top that goes up and down when you step on the pedal to dump the......ah.....processed cat food in, so our house doesn't smell. It works fine for us.:hi:

5. Oh, sweetie!
As if there weren't enough going on at your house these days.

I know it's a terrible thing to have to deal with, but you and Mrs. V. are such kind loving people to take in so many and make sure they are safe and loved.

Hope Mrs. V. is on the mend and feeling better soon. :hi:

6. sounds like you have to sleep with a litter box :(
poor Charley.

We have two ferals inside and luckily they use the boxes. But one of the ferals is scared of one of our older cats, he kept her from going to the laundry room where both of their boxes were so she started doing her poops in the shower! Yesterday we moved the smallest litterbox upstairs and so far she's using it.

I hope Charley starts getting it right.

8. You really, really do love your cats.
Most humans wouldn't go through what you did with Miranda/Rat Face's foot, Daddy's long jump attempt, and now this.

This is the mark of a true cat person. :loveya:

10. When I saw the thread title "big cat drama" I imagined something
involving lions and tigers. However, cats peeing in your bed (while not as dramatic as something involving lions and tigers) is really all the drama anyone needs.

But at least a tiger didn't pee in your bed.

11. "Bertha=slow learner" -- I'm sorry but that made me LOL.
Good luck with finding a solution for Charley. Poor thing is acting out quite dramatically, isn't she?

13. Get yourselves a waterproof mattress cover.
By the time you get the pad and sheets on the mattress over it, you won't know it's there. It will save the mattress and your sanity.

14. Feliway
You can get a plug-in or a spray bottle. It's a synthetic hormone-smell that calms cats. Veterinarians sell it, as do many pet supply stores. It's about 25 bucks but lasts a long, long time.

It works.
