All you wimps with all your snow stories - wah! wah! wah!
Edited on Fri Feb-04-11 12:48 PM by LynneSin
We had 3 back-to-back blizzards last year that all dumped about 1-2 feet each.

It's YOUR turn to put babysit the snow monster, we folks in the Mid-Atlantic had our share of it last year thank you very much

nuff said!

We get out the brooms and put on a T-shirt for that. :-)

I almost always win "I've seen more snow than you." I was once challenged by a gal from Buffalo; we called it a draw. A snowy, snowy draw.

10. We had freezing rain for about an hour last night. I had to run my wipers for a few swipes
before I could drive this morning, to clear a layer of pellets off the bottom of my windshield. It's like living in the Antarctic here: it's drizzling now, and the temperature is going to go down to 36 tonight!

27. That 4x4 better have good tires....
Otherwise, 4WD mostly makes the wreck bigger. AWD does help forward traction in skeezy conditions, not so much for steering.

34. Paitence is a virtue - Knowledge is power
You'd be amazed at the people here in the northeast who flatly state :I don't need snow tires, I have four wheel drive! In reality, a full tread "all season" tire is not too bad in snow - but it loses it's "all season" rating below 1/2 tread. There are many high-performance tires (some H, lots of V rated) which are not to be used below 32 degreees F, because their tread rubber changes into a state akin to glass.
The usual challenge here is not being able to move in deep snow, but to be able to maintain control in slushy, sloppy conditions - part of the deal with using salt as a de-icer - like trying to drive on a Slush Puppy! That's when the special features of a "real" snow tire kick in - the open tread, lots of edges, and tons of siping.

30. Well, I'm sure the taxes in such a Republican-run state are so low...
...that you can afford to hire somebody to drive in front of you with a snow plow wherever you go. And doubtless the power of the free market keeps their prices low.

Or something... :-)

23. I really don't know how you guys are putting up with it.
My hat is off to you.

Here in Indiana we had a snow/ice/sleet storm that has left everything a skating rink -- literally. Kids are ice skating down at the park near my house. Right now we have another snow storm going on, and by the time it ends Monday we'll have six inches on top of everything else.

I had the dog out a little bit ago and hit an ice patch through the snow. My feet went out from under me and I fell on my head, elbow, and hip. Both my hip and elbow stung for awhile, but now I'm starting to get a headache. The dog, of course, thought it was hilarious.

This is about the worst winter I can ever recall. It can't be over soon enough.

back and literally saw stars. (I mean, i was lying there watching the stars circling overhead and was very bemused that all those cartoons had it right!)

I got up, shook myself off and went about my business. Looking back, I think i had a rather strong concussion. I know I tended to get neck pain for about 6 or 7 years every time I got too tired.

I took some Tylenol for my head and it's a lot better.

It's still a huge jolt to the system. Haven't fallen like that in years. I'll probably be good and sore tomorrow.

28. Yeah we did get hammered last year
I have developed a tarp system for the driveway since then.

in 2009 - out of work - I was able to train for a marathon with daylight runs. The last two years that has not been possible really.

31. What's a "tarp system"?
Edited on Sun Feb-06-11 01:34 AM by kentauros
Do you just lay the tarps down on the driveway, or make a big tent out of them?

eta: Seems to me that a "seasonal carport" might be a good idea for those of you that have to deal with wintry weather like this. Just have the post holes installed along the driveway for removable supports (make 'em lightweight) and snap-on or strap-on roofs. Set-up in an afternoon, no more shoveling snow, icy drives and whatever else :)

33. Do you know why there is a red line at 50 degrees on thermometers in L.A.?
A: Because in Los Angeles if it goes below 50 "it's freezing!"

36. I can believe that.
Although in Houston, if it goes below 60, then it's "freezing". In fact, if I have to wear long sleeves at all, then it's freezing :P

37. We had .9 inches of snow this year. That's almost a whole inch!! Schools closed, cars crashed...
One guy in front of me wiped out and did a 360 around me. That's hardcore, baby. Hard Core.

And the snow stayed on the ground almost a whole day, too. You Yankees don't know snow.
