Tearing my closet apart in hopes of not having to buy a new dress!

9. You'll probably look far better than most.
I swear some of those 'stars' look like they got dressed in dark.

5. Yes but not for 3 years
My daughter was going with her dad but she is doing a semester in DC this quarter so she can't steal my ticket! LOL....in reality I enjoy it more when she goes, it's way more fun getting gussied up when you're 20 than when you're 50, at this point it's a chore.

6. Well, you have to be a voting academy member
which my hub is one, and of course the stars up front get invited but the rank & file voters in the balcony (makeup, sound editors, art directors and the like) send in for the tix on a lottery type system. Then there is this big cloak and dagger thing about picking them up, and they have your name on them and scanned to your ID so you can't give them away or sell them or anything, which I think is a good idea, the cheap seats should be just for the worker bees who want to go.

16. A friend of mine got to go several times (as I recall)
but she was neither a voting member nor related to one. She was hired to "fill in an empty seat" so the place would look packed to the cameras. I don't know who she knew, but she did have some connections to the industry. Unfortunately, she passed away about six years ago, so I can't get any greater details from her on how she managed to get such a job and from whom...

17. Yes they do hire a whole staff including "seat fillers"
Every commercial break the doors to the auditorium lock..invariably there are people stuck chatting in the lobby who end up watching the next segment on the TVs there until the next commercial break.

Seat fillers are supposed to then swoop down on those seats before the next wide shot. Even if the celebrities are backstage getting read to present they have somebody sit there during that time.

Of course the plum staff job are the gowned "right this way" ladies who escort the winners off stage, hand the presenters the awards and etc.. They all look like starlets so I assume they audition for that part like any other. Funny they have an issued "uniform" that is an evening gown, sort of like bridesmaids.

18. I didn't know that about the doors.
I don't remember my friend saying anything about that. She was beautiful enough to have been one of the on-stage escorts, too, but I guess she didn't have the right connections for that. Still, it was pretty exciting for her to go at all :D

I hope you have a great time. Post some pics when you get back :)

13. Unless I find something I love that's on sale, sale, SALE....
Edited on Thu Feb-03-11 08:11 PM by K8-EEE
Doing a recycled Oscar dress. One of the benefits of not being a celebrity is nobody is gonna notice whether I wore it in 2004 or not! I hate spending the $$ on something unless I'm going to wear it a lot, call me Capricorn!

One thing I find about evening clothes is if they're not really expensive they look cheap as hell, the worst thing is looking like a 50 year old going to the prom!

Truly there are the gawkers and the gawkees and I am of the former class, everybody upstairs has the same dumb Bloomingdales after Xmas sale attire on, LOL.

I'm actually more freaked about what to wear to the dinky, not-televised Annie (animation) awards because I know so many people there, this thing, I feel so anonymous, like an observer, and just wanting to blend into the background.

14. Lucky you!
At age 50, and still holding my looks, as well as having a husband doing the same, I'd love to play dress-up just one more time. So happy you get to enjoy the moment, and I'm sure you'll be lovely on the big night..

15. I was going to go....
But I wasn't nominated for anything. The Oscars are obviously rigged. Just as well. I don't like getting dressed up anyway. ;)
