My name is LynneSin and I am a digital hoarder
I didn't realize there was such a thing until I read about it on wikipedia and well what better way to self diagnosis yourself then by reading about strange afflictions on wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compulsive_hoarding#Digital_Hoarding

Digital Hoarding
Digital hoarding is the form of hoarding of files from the internet, often through illegal means such as BitTorrent. These files are often digital media such as movies, music and pictures. Digital hoarders often purchase multiple computers, flash drives or internal and external hard drives to archive the files. Digital hoarding is the most common form of hoarding today

Ok well about 99.9% of my stuff is legal although alot of it came from the library where I would just upload any CD they had available. But rest assure I have not listened to all 11237 songs I have in my collection.

SO.....

In order to make myself feel good about the fact that I could play music for 34 days straight and never repeat an album, it is my goal to listen to a new album everyday all the way from ABBA to Frank Zappa.

Who knows, I might fine something new I would enjoy listening to on a regular basis.

BTW damn you Amazon.com for having $5 albums!

3. Oh, you might also find an answer to your other thread
by getting busy listening to those "11237 songs" :P

I've never counted up how many I have, but I think I've listened to most of them. I tend to download mostly from http://www.passionate-music.com and http://www.welove-music.net They're companion sites, to there's a bit of overlap :)

You might also look at the sites for Netlabel and Internet Archive.

So, are you going to buy another My Book terabyte storage unit now? ;)

5. I hoard music too! and photos
Edited on Tue Feb-01-11 04:50 PM by stuntcat
over 20,000 songs and maybe a million photos.. seriously, close to a million. I know I'm a hoarder  music movies pictures books. I don't feel bad about it. The only worrying part is the possibility of losing things, I'm careful about backing up and cataloging stuff.

Sometimes I put my songs on random to see what kind of stuff plays that I forgot about. But random isn't exactly random, the machine plays some songs more often and will never play some other songs, that bugs me that they can't really make things random.

6. I use jetAudio for my music player
(http://www.jetaudio.com/download) and I can have it play whole folders with subfolders. It will randomize as you would expect, not repeating anything until all files are played.

Once it's loaded, if you right-click on your main folder in Explorer (or equivalent file-managing program) one of the choices will be a fly-out for "jetAudio" Then take the choice "Play with jetAudio" and it will start playing everything in that folder. On my player, the repeat controls are to the immediate left of the track buttons, second down being the one for choosing "random".

I know most people use iTunes, but I've found jetAudio superior in many ways, especially ease of use, letting you organize your music the way you want it, and equalization controls/presets :)

Did you see the Hoarder show on A and E with the guy that hoarded rats.

His house was full of rats, the sheetrock had to be knocked out to get the 1000 or so rats.

You can watch this show online.

Have fun with your music.

13. He wasn't as bad as the woman from the week before
At least those rats were fed properly and were free to roam. The woman from the week before was just wretched with hoarding hundreds of chickens in tiny plastic crates!

OMG, that's hilarious! So is there any treatment for digital hoarding? I admit I fall into this camp too. At least "the hoard" can be easily erased at the click of a mouse. File sharing is a big part of digital hoarding, I think because it makes it so easy to collect stuff. The upside of hoarding is that you can really improve you knowledge base. The downside is you probably don't spend a lot of time with your family (why would you want to?) Oh well, at least we're not stealing billions from the poor and working class like the big banks. See, a hoarder can use their knowledge of current events to justify anything. Viva le hoard!

11. Just put them on something like an ipod classic with 160 gb space and listen to it in shuffle mode
I did that while working outside in the summer for a couple of weeks.

Many CD-R's I copied from the library or friends are destroyed by the UV light from the sun. I should have stored them better or bought more Kodak Gold CD-R..13 year old CD-R's tztz

12. I can guarantee nobody comes close to topping my cousin.
In his house he has something like 15 big screen TVs and almost 30 computers. But he also has a full bar and a rear projector in his basement so it's fun to watch football at his place.
