Have you ever been in this situation?
You have a sick pet but are unable to take him to the vet? Too fucking broke. Vet does not extend credit.

Ever happen to you?

1. Yes. But we BEGGED the vet to take payments.
We actually went in person and talked to her. We are now allowed an 'account' - we pay a little each month. If yours will not relent, maybe try all the vets in your area and explain the situation?

I am so sorry. It is a horrible situation to be in.

2. I've been very fortunate, no I haven't, I've made payments though
But the previous suggestion, of finding a vet somewhere who will take payments or extend credit, makes sense to me. Every vet I've ever come across has had enough compassion for animals - humans too, for that matter - that they would do this.

6. it has always puzzled me
why they wouldn't allow us to wait a few weeks to pay the cost of a visit and treatment. :wtf:

3. find a new vet
 Some do. Vets aren't rolling in cash, so I understand not being TOO generous, but you can probably find one who will help you out

4. our vet could totally afford to extend credit
But we asked a couple of years ago and were turned down flat.

They are excellent doctors, it's an excellent practice. But perhaps until things turn around we ought to go elsewhere.

7. how about offering a barter?
is there some service that you could provide to the vet in exchange for services? Maybe offering to do work around the office such as cleaning windows, doing outside work, painting, cleaning the carpets, washing his car etc.

I have bartered before, mostly doing graphic design (business cards, brochures, etc) in exchange for massages. Of course, they already knew me and knew I would hold up my end of the bargain since I was in the massage therapy business myself so that made it easier to make that type of arrangement.

9. Look into these- they give money for this purpose- maybe lend, too?
http://www.rescuinganimalsinneed.org/financial_help.htm ( read first paragraph )

We have dental visits for three humans and a dog to catch up with, so I know what you mean. Dog needs to have molar pulled, I think.

10. It's happened to friends of mine.
I would love to get a dog but this is one of the reasons I haven't yet.
