8. You have a point.
It's on the top of your head, but nevertheless, it is a point.

3. Hurrying from Michigan to Tennessee on I-94 when I hit black ice at about 70 mph...
.
.
.
.
.
...amd INSTANT FAST totally uncontrollable donuts.
.
.
.
I hit the median sideways and the sides of my tires dug in (somehow I didn't
flip and roll) and a solid screen of white and green and brown blocked my vision
to the left (straight ahead because of my 90 degree orientation status).
.
.
.
I was CONVINCED that I was going to drift into oncoming traffic and die, but
my speed slowed to the point where I regained control and I was even able to
ease back onto the highway in the direction I had been going.
.
.
.
I took it "like a man".
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Didn't shit myself or nothin'.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Though I certainly don't know why not.

5. A LOOOOONG Time Ago I got PLOWED by a pickup truck.
I was rounding a curve to the outside and he on the inside curve, only he did't curve. He slid right into me, fairly fast. I'd just dropped my husband off on a trip to Dallas (we were in Pittsburgh) before I was to catch a plane the following day to meet him for Christmas at his folks'. I was about...ohhh...eight weeks pregnant with our oldest son.

That blasted Greg Lake Christmas carol that goes something like "They say there'll be snow on Christmas/They say there'll be Peace on Earth" was playing on the car radio, and all I could see was that truck driver's face as he lost control, coming toward me in slllooooowwww motion. After he drove a wedge into the front of our old Citation (I hate Citations) he got out and I rolled down the window. "Are you okay?" I said "I'm pregnant" and I swear he dman near fainted away right there.

I realy was okay, though it bruised and scared the bejeezus out of me. The wildest thing was that I got to hear my boy's heartbeat for the first time in an ER. He's 26 now.

So yeah, be careful out there. The car you plow could be somebody's mother.

10. You would have confused me...
.
.
.
.
.
...and my first thoughts would have been, "Oh, GREAT!!! My premiums are going
to go up and she's going to hit me with a nuisance paternity suit!!!"
.
.
.
.
.
I'm glad you and your boy pulled through all right.

4. Finished turkey day shopping at 3pm today.
People are having a hard time even getting up our little hill now. Forecast says it isn't going to get above 32 degrees until Thursday. Be safe.

6. I'm on Capitol Hill.
As long as I keep horizontal it should be easy. Unfortunately my office is at the botom of Capitol Hill. Tomorrow might be a wash.

And as is always the case in snowstorms, we're being cooking fools, acting as though we'll never have access to meals again.

7. well, didn't you guys have something similar around Christmas? Was it last
year, or the year before? Lots of crazy weather that isn't typical for the Northwest?

14. Going with a wash myself.
Have you seen the local news? Ack! Most schools are closed, those that aren't are delayed, I5 was at a crawl, 5 car crash, at least it was in slomo, so maybe no serious injuries. Buses on snow routes, but still some jackknives (is that right? Jack-knifes?). Stay home and cook! You have the best idea.

11. Shortsleeves & shorts! Shortsleeves & shorts! Shortsleevesshorts Shortsleevesshorts Shortsleeves!!!!
At least that's the case here in Houston :P

Here you just don't drive at all when it's icy. Make up something to get out of work (I've got the flu!) and stay off the roads. Houstonians don't understand rain, much less rain that sticks to the ground and gets hard...

12. Are you in Seattle?
I used to live there. People stayed at home when it snowed.

NOLA is about as well prepared to deal with black ice as Gee Dubya must have been for his GREs.

15. I'm in Seattle. NOLA is where I'm from.
Seattle is about like New Orleans in its ability to deal with icy roads, except there are lots and lots of hills, one of which I reside on top of. Needless to say we are all snug as bugs in rugs today but the news is full of bus-sliding videos and stories of ten hour traffic jams. If it doesn't clear off by tomorrow we're going to have a full week of Thanksgiving vacation. It'll be an expensive break for us self-employed, but might as well settle back and enjoy. Hope they don't run out of turkeys before I can get to the store.

16. You got it down there, too, huh?
It's been MISERABLE here in Alaska the past couple of days. It was quite cold last week, solidly frozen, and now it's raining and you can't even walk.
