What's the best way to practice shooting?
I assume at a range - but knowing nothing about them, how much does it cost to join, or do you just pay to get in?

4. !
That's what I would have said, only we go to a gravel pit.

The only thing I'd add is that you could also try the outdoor forum if the gungeon is too intimidating... it is for me :scared:

2. I used to shoot at a local indoor pistol range that was part of a gun shop...

...and, although they sold memberships that gave you reduced rates (good if
you practice a LOT), you could go in and pay an hourly rate that was pretty
reasonable (I think it was $6 or $8 an hour).
.
You could bring your own pistol or they would rent you a wide variety -- again,
not too expensive (I think $6-$12 an hour and they'd clean it). Bring your own
ammo or buy it there (relatively expensive) and have your own safety gear like
headphones and goggles or rent them for about a buck each. They would also sell
you a target(s).
.
This place didn't have a rangemaster, but they had one dealing from behind a
counter who kept a sharp eye on the place. Exhibit unsafe behavior and you
were history (and there was serious peer-scrutiny for safety). It's a good
idea to take a safety course anyway.
.
.
.
I grew up an occasional target shooter (couldn't see myself as a hunter) and
spent 6 years in the Army, but I REALLY got into it after seeing an indepth
show on the biathlon event in the Olympics (cross-country skiing and target
shooting). Not a competitor, just a practitioner -- it's fun and surprisingly
relaxing.
.
.
.
There's lots of recreational shooters, but expect to run into or overhear
a few hardcore gun nuts -- that was one of the unpleasant aspects of the
gun shop.

3. From what I know, of just one outdoor range, you can just pay to get in.
And be ready for all of the NRA posters. Also, the rules are stringent, have to be, so read up and get a lay of the land before you go.

6. You might want to investigate buying an adult air gun.
Fill a wooden or metal box with plumbers putty and you're set. Ammo is cheap (but the guns aren't) and there's very little noise to bother others. I used to sit in my apartment and shoot across the living room, down the hallway, and across the bedroom into a trap. The neighbors never knew.

8. Guess a lot depends on where you are and what ya know already
Consider a gun safety course. Some states have these ..best I remember.

If you've not been around guns much, or you feel the need, I would start there first.

Call your local wildlife people. They may have places to reccomend.

Heh, we had guns at home all my life. I live in a place where I can "practice" off my front porch. There are still a few targets out there from a few summers ago when we did it quite often.

Above all: BE SAFE!

:hi:

9. Depends on the range.
Some will do a monthly membership, but will also do a timely lane rental. Some ranges (like mine) rent out guns to practice on or "test drive" if you're considering buying. Mine has a Thompson. Never fronted the loot to try it though.
