so yesterday I get a fundraising call from the Catholic Church
I am one of the horde of fallen away catholics in this country. Every now and then I get some newsletter or something in the mail. They always ask for money, but who doesn't these days (thank you GW)? I guess they must get my name from old high school lists or something.
It was an older lady making the call. She was selling a subscription to some magazine to raise money to put young men through the seminary to become priests.
She just kept talking and wouldn't even take a breath. Had she given me an opening I would have told her kindly that I was not interested. But she just kept going. When she made her final pitch I was very matter of fact in my refusal. I told her:
1) I never take solicitations on the phone
2) I am no longer Catholic and would be more properly be called atheist
3) I was molested by a priest as a boy.

She started bawling quite loudly. And apologized between howls. I didn't mean to upset her. I would just like to not be bothered by such organizations. In the last two weeks I have been called by the tea party patriots, a local nut group and last night NOM.

Geez, I just realized that old lady violated the do not call list also. Now I am not feeling so bad.

1. Didn't violate Do Not Call, but...
But I understand your frustration. It especially gets annoying this time of the year when elections are coming up.

"The National Do Not Call Registry does not limit calls by political organizations, charities, or telephone surveyors."

2. Not if she was calling from a charity or non for profit.
They can still call. Depends on if her organization is considered a charity or not.
