What color carpeting should I buy?
The walls are cream colored and the furniture is on the brown side of burgundy. We have bunch of cats, so I thought maybe matching the carpet to cat barf might be the way to go.

1. When I read the thread title I immediately thought "cat puke tan"
before I even opened the thread.

The drawback to carpeting the color of cat puke is that you can't see the puke and are more likely to step in it.

2. Dark brown.
That will give you high contrast to the cat puke.

4. I agree -- tile or even stained concrete (though that's a bit hard
on your back long-term) with some pretty throw (up) rugs.

I have six cats, and don't like carpet - cat-hair/flea dirt trap. We had carpet in our former home, and now we're in a place with hardwood ... SO MUCH easier to keep clean - cathair tumbleweeds just collect in the corner and are easy to scoop up, and don't get woven into the carpet.

7. I agree with NONE
but I advocate wood or bamboo - easier on the legs/feet.

9. None is not an option
We have an older house with irregular floors that would make hard flooring a complicated process involving subflooring. Plus, our goal at the moment is to just make it look good so we can sell it and move into a smaller, lower maintenance place.

15. all hardflooring requires a subfloor install
tile would probably add more resale value. There are new ways to level out uneven floors. Look into it before you make a decision.

What if our cats start peeing in the carpet - think of the odor and what potential buyers would say.

17. Not a problem for us
Not at the moment, anyway. Barfing is another matter.

Like grass in sunshine. But mostly because it's my favorite color. :)

10. I like green
I'll have to take home some green carpet samples and see how they look and whether the cats are inclined to barf on them.

11. Anything but white
I have a couple of idiot friend who put in white carpeting. We all live in a rural area with lotsa dirt and gravel drives. I will leave the result to your imagination.

13. What color are the drapes?
Seriously, I doubt any one color can match cat barf - ours seem able to produce whatever color will have the highest contrast with the target area...

14. Absolutely NOT cat barf-color
That's a sure-fired guarantee you'll step in it and then have cat barf between your toes. Trust me. I speak from experience.

16. something with a slight tweedy variation will not show spots as much
a slightly pebbled look. Something green or shades of brown would look really good.

18. Taupe, and in Berber, if possible
Taupe is neutral enough it goes with pretty much any color. That comes in handy if you want to redecorate. I have pile and berber in in light taupe. I also have a cat who barfs nearly daily, thanks to chronic renal failure. I find it much, much easier to clean the berber carpet than the pile. Also, berber often has flecks of other colors in it, and nice textures. Great for hiding any stains you might not remove completely.

BTW, Nature's Miracle makes a great cleaner for cat barf. It's their "hairball" formula.

19. Is there one with specks of color all over? My favorite carpet
was in an apartment, gray with white and black specks all through it. Nothing showed. White lint? I don't see it. Black cat hair, where? I will be looking for carpet one of these years, and I have decided that I will hold out for tan with as many specks of other color as I can find.

coughs up. Seriously get some of that great enzyme cleaner at the pet store. It makes stains disappear on grey/white carpet.

22. It will show dust and animal hair. But it sounds like a nice color. Sometimes though you should put
the color in a room on the walls because it is so easy to paint. The couch, curtain and rug should be more neutral because those things are not so easily changed.

26. Or leave the floor uncarpeted.
But maybe that's just a passing fad in decorating.
