Oh and they also only allow it until 8:00 in the evening.

5. And if you don't want people at your door beyond 8:30, turn off your lights...
But by your posting, I can only assume you probably give out lousy candy anyway, so...:P

Nice stretch, though.

4. So, they're gonna charge 13-year-olds with Class 4 misdemeanors?
Doesn't the City of Norfolk have anything better to do?

6. Bit much, isn't it?
Halloween is sheer pandemonium every year in my village--people travel from all over to trick or treat here (seriously--they bus 'em in--okay, in minivans, but still). It's The. Biggest. Thing. Evar. We only have four police officers (two on a shift at a time), but somehow we manage to have NO violence, NO chaos, and NO vandalism (and believe me, the kids around here are NOT saints). Plenty of teens trick or treat and I don't mind giving them candy as long as they're enjoying themselves and are in the spirit of the holiday (pun intended). And things peter out around 8:30 of their own accord.

I guess I'll be extra grateful I live where I do when Samhain comes around this year.

8. That's just dumb. I went trick-or-treating for the food bank when I was in junior high. It was a
blast.

If an 18-year-old without a mask shows up demanding candy, tell him to fuck off.

9. I wonder what the history is and what local "tradition" may have caused this sort of reaction...
.
.
.
...I doubt it came solely from a "It should be for CHILDREN only" mentality.
.
.
.
Vandalism? Violence? Underage alcohol-related emergencies?
.
.
.
Or are the authorities just dicks?
.
.
.
And I would probably NOT tell an 18-year-old to "fuck off" at my door -- not unless
my car's paint job could withstand an 8-hour soaking in egg yolk and my house could
be SLUICED off and my windows were brickproof and my double-walled electric fence
were patrolled by vicious guard dogs 24/7.
.
.
.
MAYBE then.
.
.
.

11. sheesh, that's just silly.
I don't mind a few high schoolers trick or treating. No harm done, really, as long as they wear a costume.

20. yeah, but a misdemeanor seems a little extreme
Must be a place with a lot of teens with no costumes. If they don't have a costume on, I just tease em. There are only a few usually.

12. That is really stupid! What's wrong with teens trick or treating
with younger kids?

I used to babysit groups of young kids when I was a teen, and I used to dress up and trick or treat right alongside all of them.

Other kids should be able to do that still.

My rules are simpler: Knock on my door. Say "Trick Or Treat." Get candy.
