Did we have an altos discussion today?
As an alto, I feel discriminated against. Sopranos get all the best roles in musicals. Have you ever seen a musical where the alto gets the guy in the end?

2. Altos (or at least mezzo sopranos) also sing the leads in
The Barber of Seville and La Cenerentola.

They get some good solos in oratorios and masses.

But you're right in that they usually play the grandmother or the ugly sister in musicals.

3. Gypsy is a great Alto show. Also, Stephen Sondheim's Passion
with Gypsy, there's not a soprano lead in sight. :-)

In passion, the alto gets the guy, and the soprano gets the heartbreak.

6. Excellent!
I agree, as an Alto, we are underrepresented :P
One great alto song, in a couple of arrangements, is "Lonesome Road", always loved singing that in h.s....

5. Alto? Which character is that?
I don't remember seeing any "Alto" on the Sopranos!
