I'm ready for the Big Weather:

Oil and a new mantle in the Aladdin lamp, four battery lamps ready...I'll be able to see to read.

MacBook fully charged and projects loaded, so I'll be able to work for two or three hours on the battery. Car inverter at hand so I can pick up a charge from the car battery if necessary, but I'll probably stop working and read or maybe clean my offiec when the first charge runs out.

I really like Big Weather, but I'll have to stay inside - we have way too many trees around the house for it to be safe to go outside in 50-knot winds. And I can't drive around to enjoy the destruction, because I have a convertible, and the cloth top won't provide much protection if a tree falls on me.

Oh, and also: I have an old-fashioned, honest-to-God, plug-in, wired telephone. Not that I'll be inclined to talk to anyone, but it's handy to have. Mrs R and my sons are out, and it would be good if they can call me if they need to.
