Poll question: Irish beer.
Prompted by this:

Why Don't the Irish Like Guinness Anymore?

http://www.aolnews.com/surge-desk/article/guinness-not-popular-in-ireland-anymore/19644187

"Nowadays, of course, Guinness is the liquid equivalent of a plastic bodhrán or one of those strap-on leprechaun beards you can buy in tourist shops: though outsiders regard it as a key component of their authentic Irish 'experience,' for natives it is less a national symbol than a relic of bygone times."

:wow:

1. Tough call. I went with Smithwicks, but Beemish was a close second.

4. Well I was in Ireland twice in the last six months
and none of the people I was around drank it, most preferring regular mixed drinks or (gasp!) Budweiser...

However, in the pubs I saw plenty of men drinking it (not considered a woman's beer lol), men of all ages and income status so I don't think it's gone down the tubes just yet.

Me I love Guinness. My friends made fun of me for it. I like Smithwicks and Beamish too, but I grew up with my English dad drinking Guinness from the time I can remember.

Anyway, good luck with any writer trying to classify the Irish on anything lol. Can't be done.

6. Poteen
It's not beer, though. It's Irish moonshine. If made incorrectly it can cause blindness, or death. Pretty potent stuff.

Really a good video.

7. Guinness is so overrated...I never could understand the fascination with the stuff
I think it's kind of a cool guy bar initiation thing....couple shots of Jamison ( which I have no problems with ) drink that with some Guinness ( ewww ) Flat, tasteless beer it seems to me

12. You ever tast Budweiser.
Drink one, then drink a Guinness. The Heavens will open, the Angels will sing, and God will slaughter the fatted calf for you.

Once past that, you can start experimenting.

14. Budweiser is pisswater...I wouldn't take one if someone bought me a round
I would rather drink the wash off the bar urinal than drink Budweiser....Coors is not much better, either

I do, however, like Miller Lite....I buy it by the case sometimes, at least that has some flavor

15. Wasn't my point. Everyone knows it tastes like whatever vile liquid you can think of.
Not sure about your creds for mentioning Miller Lite, but I'll let that pass. Point was, Guinness is one of those gateway beers that get people past the crap their high school buddies could steal from their uncle's basement. They get used to ordering Bud, and someone convinces them to drink a Guinness, and a whole new world opens up for them. Hopefully that world leads them to better brews, but at least it has led them away from Clydesdale Sweat.

16. Well, if you want to get technical about it...most people around here grew
up on Genessee Cream Ale....you ever taste that shit? I have...and it is pretty fucking nasty

I also remember them drinking Meister Brau...really, I've seen my share of piss-beers

I don't have "creds" for Miller Lite...I like the stuff, and it tastes better than the above-mentioned shit, that is for sure

19. Most people aren't from around there.
And for that, Santa Claus is thankful.

:smoke:

And you're right, Miller is a little less noxious than Budweiser.

21. Why you!

We have Shiner Bock, though. It's pretty damn good for a commercially priced beer.

8. Of the ones listed, I'll take Harp's.
Why? Because it's the only one there that doesn't use isinglass. That's a "fining agent" made from dried and powered fish bladders.

Mmmm, yummy!
