I need to cut the grass right now but I can't make myself, the grass is really tall.

5. ya. we (15 yr old son) have gone to every other week, instead of weekly

and cut it a level shorter last time. but what happened. in june our grass was so pretty and thick. july i got the water bill and fuckin 644 dollars. i have never had over 300. they said it was us. no leaks. price increase and on teir, sooooo

i pretty much stopped watering. it hurt so bad, lol. grass has gotten some patches of brown

7. The big freeze we had killed a lot of plants and did brown the grass.

We had a winter here, nights in the 20's.

Our plants and grass are not made for this.

Only a few of our plants came back, and then they are slowly coming back.

We had a tropical jungle, it looks empty now.

I miss my Norfork pines, they all died.

To many nights in the 20's, don't know if I want to buy new one's.

Think I will stick to cedar trees, nothing killes them.

almost $650 for one month? you running a golf course? we are pumping 350 feet on one horse-and-half submersible and then running a 5hp motor on a piston pump and watering 200 head of livestock on that for around $100 a month (plus gas and wear and tear on vehicles to go turn it on and off (it's 5 and half miles away)

i argued and argued with water. made them call up all previous record to see that it has never been even half that.

twice over a decade they have worked out there on their line adn we ended up with a leak, adn we always end up paying. tell ya.... i think they are a scam.

15. Most people don't know (or understand) how to use them,

but those weep hoses (the black ones) work great.

What you do, is lay them out in a snaking fashion, with several feet between turn-backs, turn the tap to full to fill the hose, and shut it off. Then, open the tap just a crack, to get a real drip to it. Leave it on overnight or however long you want, though 24 hours is plenty.

When I had a garden years and years ago, I did just that, covered the hose with either sawdust or straw (can't remember now) and left it on for a full day. My plants loved it and I didn't have to go out there all the time hand-watering.

One other thing to put down, if you don't already, is good and rich compost. That'll give the soil more organic material and help it hold more water. Or, spread alfalfa pellets (sheep feed) over your lawn for both the nitrogen content and the organic matter :)

However, I was just reading in Treehugger.com about an ancient method of "drip irrigation" using unglazed pots. Here's the link:

Probably also best for a garden, but with a little thought, it might be adaptable to a lawn.

The alternative to all this is to use a low-maintenance grass ;)

26. OMG where do you live and how much acreage are you

watering? Wow. I was watering a 1/3 of an acre (less a 1200 sq ft house) two to three times a week for a month, for one month of a quarterly bill, and only paid an extra $100 or so. Since watering kept the weeds down and the grass growing like crazy (further reducing the weed population), I spent less than did my neighbor, who has a lawn company spray obnoxious chemicals, and my lawn looked much better than his (which has lots of dead brown piles of dirt).

28. i dont get it. lady told me prices had gone up. then they tierred it so higher usage, high cost

between rain and me watering very little in july went down to 137. but the next month shot to 240 again and i didnt do anything. this month, i am not watering. i dont get it. my water was 57, 69, 137 the previous months to the 644.

we sit on an acre. house is pretty big. 12 stations. i dont water more than 20 minutes per station anymore and like maybe once a week. i havent watered for a good week cause suppose to rain for the next three days. cant wait to see what this bill is.

june, i watered probably three times a week.

hubby has his veggie garden, 15 min a couple times a week. and i have a teen into his showers.

My lawn was mowed on Saturday & now you can't tell because all the rain we've received has made the grass go wild. My front yard looks like it's never seen a lawnmower.
