What was so bad about George Lazenby as 007?
Seriously, after watching an aging Sean Connery sleepwalk through The One With The Volcano Base and The One With The Gay Hitmen and Roger Moore being, well...Roger Moore, are you really complaining about George Lazenby?

On Her Majesty's Secret Service kicked unholy ass, and Lazenby acquitted himself fine.

1. Roger Moore being, well...Roger Moore was my least favorite Bond
I've made the statement about Moore playing Moore before and it's frequently met with groans of "Oh, come ON..."

Connery used a great deal of sarcasm in the role, so it wasn't a big stretch for Moore to do the same, except his sarcasm was kind of smarmy. Granted, villains wanted to kill Bond because he was Bond, but I think villains would want to just kick the crap out of Moore's Bond on general principal, just to wipe that smirk off his face.

"On Her Majesty's Secret Service" wasn't bad at all.

2. Nothing was wrong with it - he was good
It was a dumb move for him to quit, IMO...

4. Because he debuted in one of the darkest Bond films made.
Edited on Fri Aug-20-10 11:18 PM by edbermac
He feels his boss has no confidence in him and threatens to quit;
His woman is kidnapped by Blofeld and his government will not help to rescue her, so he has to rely on her crime syndicate father to do the job;
He finally gives up his playboy lifestyle, marries his woman whom he considers his equal and she is murdered by Blofeld right after the wedding.

I can't recall any Bond film with such a shocking end. They all usually end with JB rolling in the sack with his super hot leading lady. Not this time.

5. And he CRIES!
That's the only Bond film, as far as I know, in which Bond cries.

6. I LIKED Roger Moore as Bond --
he actually looks like and sounds like an English aristo -- as opposed to Connery (way too Scots) or even worse, men like Timothy Dalton or Daniel Craig who look like perfect peasants.

7. Lazenby lacked savoir faire. Moore had the most, indeed. But
Moore was the only one who was a Saint. After Sainthood it's all easy street.
