Data recovery companies, any recommendations?

I know there are a lot of techies around here so I figured I would ask for advice.

I am going through a nightmare where my main hard drive has died taking my outlook PST which is my lifeline with me. My backup is weeks old which is a big problem for me. The drive is recognized by the BIOS but it doesn't show up under windows in disk management. I tried virtually every method at recovering files that didn't risk additional damage to the drive, all efforts have failed.

I am now under the assumption sending my drive to a data recovery place is my only option. Problem is I'm no a tight budget, and I can't afford $500 let alone the $1900 a local shop tried to suggest I would have to pay. Does anyone have any experiance with these guys or maybe some suggestions for another company? My apologies for posting this on DU, but I know there are many techies here and I'm kind of paniced right now.
