Just got a wisdom tooth pulled. The whole procedure took less than five minutes.
The novacaine hasn't worn off so it doesn't hurt...yet.

I'm sure soon enough I'm going to be in a world of pain.

Biting on a teabag now (they recommended it, slows the bleeding faster than gauze).

Anyone want to buy me some ice cream? :)

1. Been there. And yeah, it was a snap.
Except for one of them that the dental students had a hard time getting out. But even then, it didn't hurt during the procedure.

2. Best I can do is send virtual ice cream
Hope it helps.

What a change from many years ago. When I was a senior in college, the Air Force insisted all four wisdom teeth be removed before I graduated and started pilot training. In typical military overkill fashion, the process actually involved an overnight stay at the Academy hospital.

They gave me Valium via IV for the procedure. The whole thing was so pleasant that I found myself wishing they had scheduled a separate appointment for each tooth.

I never did experience any significant pain. I hope you have a similar experience!

4. Thanks all! Well the numbing is almost completely gone. My jaw feels a little achy but so far the
pain isn't too bad. Especially compared to a few of weeks ago when the tooth got infected. THAT hurt. This is mild in comparison. I am really tired though. Think I might take a nap then go buy some gelato for lunch.

9. Kind of a blessing in disguise isn't it?
When I had my wisdom teeth yanked, two of them were badly cracked and abcessed. They had grown in like regular molars, and I never even realized they were wisdom teeth until the day I had to go to the ER because the pain and infection were so terrible. The pain of the 4 holes in my mouth was nothing compared to what it was before. I think I only had to take Rush Limbaugh's favorite pills for 1 or 2 days, and the rest of that prescription was used "recreationally" at a later time.

34. They had to take out one of my molars with my wisdom teeth because...
my wisdom teeth were impacted and coming in funny, this created a space where food could get stuck and a really bad and painful cavity developed. NOT FUN.

May it continue to be easy, sweetie!

Have a great nap, and enjoy your gelato...

6. I decided gelato took priority over the nap. There's a gelato place down the block
that just opened this week. You can get four flavors in a medium so I tried cinnamon, chocolate orange saffron, panna cotta, and plain old chocolate sorbet. The cinnamon gelato and chocolate sorbet were my favorites. That place is going to be dangerous.

Okay, NOW I'm going to take that nap. Thanks Peggy! :hi:

7. Dont assume
I had 2 wisdom teeth pulled at once. I was eating corn nuts later that day. Never had any issues or pain, and I was allergic to the painkiller provided, so I didn't take them.

8. Corn Nuts? Wow! I have to say I feel pretty darn good. No pain to speak of at all. I'm sure if I
were to jam tortilla chip up in the wound that would hurt like a bitch, but so far so good. They said I could eat just about anything not too taxing, I didn't have to stick to broth, jello and ice cream. For dinner I had panang noodles with tofu, all pretty soft. I'm not going to risk anything too crunchy or chewy for a few days. I want it to heal up good. I have painkillers ready to take but so far I haven't needed them. I'm pretty relieved. As long as I can keep it from getting infected or dry socket, I think I'll be in great shape.

12. I just got the tooth next to the wisdom tooth pulled yesterday.
The procedure was quick and the only thing painful were the needles. The tooth was abscessed and it had been hurting like a mofo all week. Same as you, it hasn't really been hurting since it was pulled. Just hoping it heals up without any problem.

16. I stopped by the apothecary down the block for advice on some natural product to heal
the wound faster and he said he only had one wisdom tooth. I said I only had three originally (now down to two). He replied "well, we must be more evolved. Since humans don't need them anymore, anyone who develops fewer than four is farther along evolutionarily speaking."

He was kidding, but I like that answer! YOU must be super evolved then! :)

15. Even if it's easy and painless, you're still entitled to all the ice cream, pudding,
mashed potatoes, and whatever other treats you feel like having. It's practically a law. So take care, and milk it for all it's worth!

23. I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out when I was in high school.
They had to give me an IV for the procedure, which sucked because they poked both arms four times and both hands three times before they found a single vein they could use. :eyes:

And it hurt for a few days, but after three days I was eating solid foods again. A friend of mine had her wisdom teeth out on the same day as me, and she didn't do so well with it - swollen cheeks, no solid foods for more than a week... I felt bad for her.

Here's hoping your recovery goes quickly! :hi:

and I have to remind myself not to pop a tortilla chip or nuts into my mouth. Then there could be some pain. :hi:

24. I was born with only three wisdom teeth
they gave me an IV of valium and demerol and I was out cold. All I remember is the crunching when they pulled out the teeth.

I was in bad shape for at least two weeks,I told my mother I wanted to sue the dentist..lol..I shed bone for months and months after that. I sometimes wonder if it was worth it.

25. I had a similar experience.
The root was shallow, and it came right out. I was eating soup just 90 minutes later. I took a Vicodin with the soup and another one that night at bedtime, and the next day, I didn't even need a Tylenol. Hope you have the same good luck.

29. I'm feeling very fortunate. I didn't even take any painkillers yesterday. I thought to myself
well, I'll wait until the novacaine wears off and see how bad it hurts before I decide what pain meds to take. I kept waiting but the pain never came. Zero. It seems almost bizarre that I could have a huge tooth ripped out of my skull and two hours later be in zero pain. But I'll take it over the alternative. Glad yours wasn't too bad either!

I looked like I went thirteen rounds with Muhammed Ali the next day.

And felt like Joe Frazier was helping him.

Heroin couldn't stop that pain.

28. Actually, I got lucky. A day and a half later and I've had absolutely no pain whatsoever.
And no bleeding after the first 2 hours or so. But I like your advice about iced tea, because I love iced tea. I was going to make a big pitcher tonight but made ginger syrup (for homemade ginger ale, yum!) and salsa and by the time I was done with that it was late. Will make some in the morning though. :hi:

Mine were impacted. One was turned 90 degrees so that the top was pointing towards my other teeth, acting like a little torpedo. My whole face swelled up, couldn't eat, painful. Generally one of the most miserable experiences I've had.
