SQUASH

One day it is a delicious homegrown side dish. The next day it is some kind of inedible, obscene mutant.

7. I think it is just the nature of squash
they grow fast and overwhelm you

one plant is really enough but we have 4
last 2 years they died because of squash bugs so we over planted this year:rofl:

11. its a freaking giant zucchini
cut it in half lengthwise and scrape out the seeds
stuff it with your favorite "stuff" - ground beef and rice, cheese and bread crumbs, whatever
bake for an hour or so
eat the stuffing and throw away the zuchinni
(this is a joke, sort of)

12. that is so funny kali on different levels. she brought me a normal zucchini, too
we were saying, surely it isnt zucchini. looked like one, just too big

i hadnt thought about stuffing a zucchini. that is an interesting idea. i have found a really good recipe for stuffing green peppers. that is a good idea

we had an acorn squash i put orange marmalade, cinnamon and butter, cooked... was so good.

13. ooh pimply squash
I love them things. Not to eat, blehhh. To look at, and to rattle when they're all dried out. Shift my gaze from the monitor and I can see two that I've had for years and years lying in state adorning the kitchen in all their bumpled glory. I'm not sure if they're a couple I grew myself or if they were from the old guy down the road who gave me the seeds. In any case, they remind me of him, he died some years ago, he had a superb vege garden. He also gave me seeds for the most delicious tomatoes I've ever tasted, Oxhearts.

They also remind me of another neighbour who had a rare skin condition, her face and hands were covered in lumps and looked just like pink pimply squash, except when you touched her - she was a kind old soul, I had a lot to hug and kiss her for - you discovered it was still soft and yielding like normal skin and any kind of latent revulsion you felt melted away.

16. Some of those veggies on the lower right
may be useful for things other then eating. ;-) Can't remember who (Joan Rivers maybe?) but someone once said that every grown woman should have a cucumber on hand at all times cuz you never know when they may come in handy........:hide:
