Brad Pitt to star in 'World War Z,' the big screen adaptation of Max Brooks' novel

The buff 46-year-old star has officially signed on to fight the undead in his next film, "World War Z," MTV reports.

Author Max Brooks (son of filmmaker Mel) revealed that Angie's man will star in the big screen adaptation of his 2006 novel about the survivors of a ten-year zombie war at San Diego's Comic-Con on Thursday.

According to MTV, Pitt was a long-rumored contender to headline the film, but Brooks didn't get the official notice of the actor's involvement until Wednesday night at the signing booth for comic publisher Avatar Press.

The film has been in development since 2007, but Pitt's signing (the actor's Plan B company is also producing the film) is the biggest step thus far in bringing Brooks' smash page-turner to the screen.

"I'm glad they took their time, and are trying to make the best zombie movie they can," said Brooks. "I'm so glad they stayed with the project and so glad they found the right team."

1. Is it a good book?
The title would turn many readers away.

2. It's the Citizen Kane of zombie stories.
It's far more intelligent than a zombie story has any right being. Seriously, one of the best horror novels of the last couple decades, hands down, imo. I've already read it 3 times. :)

29. It's okay
In the sense that "Seinfeld" got okay ratings, Jessica Beal has an okay figure, Hugh Jackman has an okay physique, and "Avatar" did okay at the box office.

32. If you have any stomach for the epistolary novel, it's quite good
However, I can't stand that format, so I give it a rating of "not bad."

Still, within the genre it's undeniably the current crown jewel.

7. Now I'm really curious to know which character Pitt will play
I could see him as the main soldier, Todd. But if he's headlining it, hopefully not just as the narrator.

Now if they get Alan Alda to star in it as well, I'll be lined up at midnight for the opening.

24. If I understand correctly, he's going to be the one collecting the stories across the world.
It's been a while since I read the first story release (and that was of the first draft of the script which has since been rewritten), but I think the idea was to follow Pitt's character around as he explored the zombie-ravaged planet seeking out the stories that go along with all the data he was required to collect in his job. The stories would then be told in flashbacks to the action and the major events, so on and so forth.

It's hard to describe, and I wish I could find the article, but it sounded like they had a really, really solid idea for translating this book into a very, very good movie.

27. I never actually saw the draft, just read a story about it online a couple years ago.
The person who had read it, however, seemed absolutely thrilled and was even wondering if this could be the first zombie movie ever to earn a Best Picture nomination. very high praise for such a project.

28. I thought Zombieland should've gotten a Best Picture nomination
that was a great movie and it had a lot of heart. I love that World War Z has the potential to be even better. Having Brad Pitt should help attract other good actors to sign on too. I'd like to see Alda and Rob Reiner sign on too.

16. Looks like it has potential
though, the director was the Quantum of Solace director, and that movie kind of sucked.

Still, I need to read the book one of these days.

18. Going from killing Nazis (Inglorious Basterds) to zombies seems like a lateral move.
I would have hoped that he'd up the ante to killing zombie Nazis in his next movie.

:woohoo:

World War Z is one of my favorite books ever, and I was excited when they were talking a couple of years ago about making it into a movie. I'm thrilled to see that it's finally going forward full steam ahead!
