True Blood: Franklin Mott's mad texting skills and more!
Edited on Mon Jul-19-10 03:33 PM by Hell Hath No Fury
Ok, Did Frain as Mott just snatch that whole episode out from everyone's nose last night???? I cannot remmeber the last time I have had such fun watching an actor do his thing with a character. Yeah, the writers have given him a whole lot to work with, but he just brings something deely deeply twisted/funny/sexy/endearing to a monster of a character. I don't know which was funnier: his mad motherfucking texting skills or his wish to take Tara to Shoney's. Glad to see Tara finally "get" how to survive Mott and to see her working him until she can take him out. I also loved the writers/director's sly nod to the first human/vamp romance we saw of Sookie running in a flowing white gown to be with her vamp lover -- but we now see Tara running in a flowing white gown away from her vamp lover as fast as her feet could take her. :D

So much to love about last night's episode.

Sam and Tommy watching what looked like "Animal Planet" -- pointing out a cheetah call -- nice brother bonding and funny as heck.

Lafayette and Jesus -- could they be cuter together?? It was fun watching Lafayette trying to manuever his way through a situation it appeared he was unfamilair with.

The King of Lousiana's seems to be the place to be! Everyone and their brother are there right now. Eric, Bill, Mott, Coot, and the King all under one roof -- something is going to blow. Loved Talbert's response to Eric -- I think the phrase "I could eat you with a spoon" is appropriate here. Nice to see some Eric backstory, though I had hoped it involved a lover of Eric's he had been passionate about. Looks like Eric has just always been a ol' horn dog. :D

I see a Tommy/Jessica/Hoyt triangle appearing before our very eyes.

Terry's scene with Sam was truly wonderful. Terry is such an interesting character and the actor who plays him really walks a fine line of humor and pathos.

Jason's cop "uniform" was hysterical, as was his time manning the phones at headquarters. I am surprised he didn't Xerox his ass.

1. Nice take on the episode.
Now, Jason's is one ass that I would love a Xerox copy of!

If I had that bod I would run around naked constantly, too. :D I think it takes a clever actor to play "dumb" so phenomenally well -- I think "Jaaon" is right there with "box of rocks".

And yoga enthusiast, too. Who knew!

2. It was a great episode...
I had to laugh at Franklin when he was sobbing...he's a nut, but a very interesting nut. And the texting bit was funny as well.

Jason, riding around in a police car with no shirt pulling over a girl he's interested in...fit Jason to a "t". Oh and the paper clip limbo...lmao..

Poor Tara!

Can't wait for next week.

4. Yes, paperclip limbo -- the new party craze! :D
Franklin Mott is such a wonderous little freak. I guess we should have known he was a "different" kind of detective when he pulled that truckler's head out of a paper bag and played puppeteer with it. And his lines about the church ladies not letting him play at the casinoe and blacking out/waking to find body parts strewn about -- the writing really stirs the imagination. Can one find a psychopath oddly endearing??

And Jason -- as someone noted on a TB board -- that whole Jason coming outta the cop car sans shirt but with hot cop shades was like something out of a bad 70's porn movie. :D But, as you said, classic Jason.

Tara needs to keep her cool and wait until Mott's sleeping than find the biggest, pointiest piece of wood she can find and go at it. Or keep him up long enough until he develops the bleeds really badly.

5. I was worried about the abundance of new characters...
..and I'm still not entirely convinced the writers are going to be able to make it all work. One of the things I enjoyed about the first 2 seasons was seeing the way this motley crew of people all worked together, sometimes lovingly, sometimes begrudgingly, but always for some common purpose. So I'm a little dissapointed that every character basically has their own free-standing story now with only tangential connections to each other.

But so far every single new character is proving interesting and the writing continues to be top notch.

I love how the writers and the actors are all so comfortable blending hetero and homo eroticism without either one seeming forced or controversial. The way the entire place and all the characters are just one stew of simmering sexuality in all it's forms is refreshing rather than any of it being some bold statement or some shocking moment. It all just happens and everyone at some point is attracted to someone or something outside of their comfort zone. Which is pretty much a good summation of human sexuality rather than the Point A to Point B straight line that is usually portrayed.

6. From what I've been reading --
all the disperate plots/characters are going to come together at the end -- the whole crew is heading back to Bon Temps in the next few episodes.

I actually like the expansion of the True Blood Universe -- the introduction of new characters has been fun and is telling a great story.

I loved Talbot's line to Eric about the Asian vamp porn: "You know there is nothing new, only new people." I think that perfectly sums up the vamp ease with a fluid sexuality. I also loved Eric's flirting with Talbot. As you said, there is such a jumble of sexuality on the show -- gay/straight, living/dead, inter species -- it allows for an incredible variety of sexuality to be expressed that is not usually present on most shows.

7. BTW, I don't think there are enough DU threads about Cooter

I didn't think much of him until I watched an on-demand clip from HBO about Werewolves. And they showed Grant Fowler out of his Cooter image. HOTHOTHOT!!!

8. I just noticed this season that the actor that plays Terry was on Gilmore Girls.

Quite a different role he has now.

Oh, and that's the King of Mississippi's house. Louisiana has a queen. :)
