I watched Koyaanisqatsi this weekend.
Yes, the cinematography and editing was excellent, but however it seems to me that this is one of those movies that you need to be in an altered state of mind to even begin to remotley understand.

1. I only saw the title
and your post sums up my thoughts exactly. I'm not sure weed is strong enough...maybe mushrooms or LSD?

I saw it unaltered and it did little for me. Since it seems to come up from time to time, I have considered re-watching it but would definitely need to be hooked up first. :)

2. I saw it when it first came out.
Using fast motion photography back then was fairly new so I was quite impressed. Since everyone uses it nowadays the novelty has worn off.

But if you're in the mood for some Philip Glass music, it still stands up.

3. I love that movie!
It had a major impact on me. And I've never seen it stoned.

It's not meant to be understood. Only interpreted from your own viewpoint.

4. I can listen to Glass's score at any time...
but to watch the film
I have always had to be altered
to keep from being bored out of my mind

5. Have you seen Baraka?
It's directed by the cinematographer for Koyaanisqatsi, and the Blu-Ray is just *stunning.*

7. One of my favourite films
Understanding is not necessary. Supposedly, altering ones self is also not necessary. I believe that one of the intentions of the film is to put the viewer in an altered state... or so a prof once said in a critique class many years ago.

Have you watched Powaqqatsi or Nagoyqatsi, the second and third movies of the trilogy?

9. No, it's even more wonderful when straight and sober. Brilliant movie.
I've seen it many times, and even have seen it at least three times performed live.

Fucking awesome.

Can't get enough of it.
