Don't Cats Get Bored?
Friend of mine has a cat that clamors at the window so it can sit out on the air conditioner. It sits there all day, then it clamors to get back in the house. The animal does this day after day except when it rains.

My own two cats never leave my apartment. Occasionally one of them will take advantage of an open door and go out and investigate the hall. The sound of another tenant in the hall has them scurrying back for safety. Both of them were strays that I brought in from the outside, so it's not as though they haven't seen the big wide world.

There's no way to keep a dog in the house; the animal would go stir crazy just from being cooped up. Not so with cats. They don't seem to get bored, ever. Of course if I'm gone all day they act like they've missed me. It seems to take very little to keep them amused. Maybe that's why they're so popular as pets.

1. They don't get bored, they nap
They saw the outside world, and it isn't as comfy as your couch or as amusing as your cat toys (everything in the house).

2. I think they do
My cat is an indoor/outdoor kitty. She loves to be outside during nice weather but is not allowed to stay out overnight. It's always a battle to get her back in at bedtime. It's as if she's trying to make up for all the cold months where she has been cooped up inside.

She's 18 and stopped going out in the cold (by her own choice) about 3 or 4 years ago. But during those cold months I often hear her upstairs running around and acting in a manner somewhat unbecoming for an elderly lady; and inconsistent with her usually oh-so-dignified ways. Personally I think it's cute, but she seems embarrassed when she knows I've seen her acting 'goofy'. ;-)

This is not to say that indoor kitties get bored or don't have fun. Please don't think I'm saying that! :scared: My sister's 2 kitties have lived their entire lives indoors and are very happy and contented. I think it's all relative to what they know and perceive to be fun. I doubt they think they are missing out on anything in the outside world. When they're in the mood to play, they've got their toys and/or rough-house with each other.

But yes, whether they are indoor or outdoor kitties, I do think they get bored at times therefore do something to amuse themselves.
