Modernity and the changing roles of marriage
As you guys know I proposed to my BF/fiance last weekend.

Last night we were hanging out at our favorite coffee house with my best friend a.k.a. my gay boyfriend (MGB) about planning the details of the wedding.

MGB: Oo! Oo! Can I be your Maid of Honor?

At this point I hadn't even had a chance to assimilate the question when the fiance says:

Fiance: Ah...NO!

Now, the fiance and MGB get along very well but suddenly I had a flash that maybe he was being a little homophobic or maybe he was worried his very fundie parents would think/say.

Me: (somewhat shocked) Why not? Because he's a guy?

Fiance: No. Because he's no maid. A maid means chaste and reserved for marriage.

He's no maid...he's a slut.

MGB: You say that like it's a bad thing.

Fiance: I didn't say it was a bad thing, I just noted the fact that you're a slut.

MGB: (looking at me) So can I be your Slut of Honor?

(I look at fiance.)

Fiance: Yeah, I'm cool with that.

And then MGB and fiance High-5 each other.

Those two get to playing off each other and they make me laugh so hard. I do so love them.

BTW - I think it's official: I'm going to be a wife because when loverboy asked, "So does this mean I get a bachelor party?" I felt the cold fist of jealousy clench around my heart. When we first started seeing each other when his friends would go off to strip clubs I tried to get him to go with them (he wouldn't). Now suddenly I'm jealous.

with hybrid features from both.

11. Oh, there's nothing to talk about.
I mean, sometimes the syrup is just so-o-o-o sugary and sticky it takes so-o-o-o long to get it all cleaned off and you have to be so slow and attentive.

It's nothing you'd be interested in talking about, really.
