What's the longest you've survived on Free Republic?
Not counting "stealth" accounts you make where you pretend to be a Republican pissed at * so you can throw anti-* talking points from a right wing perspective. I have one of those which I use to post extreme examples of right wing stupidity and pop the little electoral fantasy bubbles they get.

Aside from that one, I don't think any account of mine there has lasted more than 5 posts.

1. I confess, I've never even been there
I guess I kinda feel that even going over and taking a look around would be A, a waste of my time, and B, contaminating my computer!

2. Still there, Jan 02
I'll post in a gun debate now and then, despite my liberal leanings, I do happen to know a bit about them, more than most FReeps apparently.

3. Zero posts. I've never tried.

Why someone would register there to pretend to be a frothing at the mouth hate filled conservative or register here to pretend to be a compassionate liberal is beyond me. Someone who does that for fun really needs to get a life.

7. Last May, after two months
of being on DU, I decided to register at Freak Republic and posted a thread here inviting people to bet on how long I'd last. I actually managed about a week, believe it or not. Don't know how, though, especially after enduring a thread calling for the fucking DEATH PENALTY for adulterers, claiming adultery was the worst sex crime of all.

I finally snapped when they were blasting Kerry for his health care proposal, calling him all kinds of names, including the usual "unpatriotic" bullshit. I lost it and said that maybe Kerry's distinguished service in Vietnam (where he DID NOT have to go, he could have used his family name and money to get out of it like certain drunken frat boys who've taken over the WH) didn't exactly qualify him for the "unpatriotic" label; I went on to tell the truth about Shrub and his so-called "service" and then I just let it rip, going on and on and on and on, telling them exactly what I thought of them and their God, Bush, and what he was doing to the country, and how their obsession with Clinton was sick and pathological, etc., etc.

Oh, it was GLORIOUS! I had a ball, even though I knew what was going to happen because of it. Surprisingly enough, some of the freeps actually engaged me in real conversation and debate before the primitive freeps shut them down and started making fun of me.

I then immediately posted a thread on DU about it and some DUers went over, found the thread, and posted a link for me since I didn't (and still don't) know how to do it. Then everyone HERE had fun with the whole thing, and the thread actually stayed up on Freak Republic for longer than we all thought it would.

Both sides exchanged trolls, though, that was the only bad thing! That's one of my favorite DU memories. I bookmarked the thread, but I have no fucking clue how to link it otherwise I'd post the link and we could have fun reliving it!

11. Frankly, I don't bother with FR.
They have their forum, we have ours. I choose to leave them alone as I'd much rather spend my on-line hours with the good folks at DU! :yourock:

12. Would never do it
I hate cleaning up troll spills over here, and I imagine they hate cleaning up us over there. It truly is agonizing wondering if you are doing the right thing as you eliminate an account. Some make it easier than others, but its still a lot of mental energy wasted.

Freepers are blinded by their ideology and we are (rightfully :)) entrenched in ours. Its silly to think that posting over there, or them posting over here is going to change anything or anyone. And again, there are other forums in the big wide world where can knock yerself out.

Otherwise, no one would ever change their mind about anything, ever.

What you need to do is not confront but engage, and not on one of the "marker" issues (you'll never in a million years convince a pro-lifer that life doesn't begin at conception), but on a side issue or an issue about which "conservatives" themselves are split. I have had, for example, instructive and illuminating discussions of agriculture programs with freepers.

I know what you mean about trolls, though. My philosphy is that at DU I'm family, at FR, I'm a houseguest.
