Yep. This is a dumb computer ??? - How to burn video to

play on your DVD player?

Yes, that just sounds dumb coming out of my mouth(or keyboard), but I can't figure it out...

What am I doing wrong...

1) Take video from Digital Camera (not camcorder).
2) D/L to computer (WINXP)
3) Open Nero Express
4) Make VCD disc.
5) Get all those files in there
6) Mess around with the menu options, fonts
7) Burn that sucker

Now, my laptop has this as a writer/cd player in device manager:

HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC T10N

Do I need a DVD disc? My tech guy at work just said a cdr disc would work so I'm trying that...

Nero seems to write it fine - goes thru all the motions. But there is nothing on the disc??? Computer can't find anything on the disc either...

I have a feeling I am getting something very basic wrong. Either my system/writer can't do it or I need a DVD disc???

I've burned a ton of cds - first crack at trying to get the video I take on my camera to play in a DVD player...

Help.

Thanks

1. Have you checked the bit-washer fluid level? Sounds like you're running dry.
:P

Seriously, though, as far as I know you can only burn a disc to play like a DVD if it is, in fact, a DVD disc.

Trying to burn a regular CD-ROM to be a DVD disc isn't going to work.

I could be wrong, though - when I worked in corporate America, I worked with a bunch of Russians who were always breaking copyright on DVDs and burning them onto discs, and I think they might have used regular CD-ROMs; but I think they also formatted them into a different form than what a DVD does.

Another thing to check is to make sure that the burning program doesn't have some other button called "finalize this disc" or something to that effect - a way to tell it that you are really all done putting data on that disc, and that it can go ahead and finish the process. When I first got a CD burner I ruined a number of discs (and pulled out a lot of hair) before I realized that the software had such a button.

3. Yes....
Sounds like you're not finalizing the disc. Check for Finalize and Verify (separate operations).
