2. This year there was a bad run of mange among the local foxes
Caused by malnutrition. The foxes have been too successful and there was an overpopulation. Three of last year's kits were in bad shape so we called a local rescue group and managed to trap one of them. The case of mange was so bad the little girl fox was almost completely bald. It looked like a small version of the "chupacabra" examples they keep showing in these stupid stories. Bald, "elepahnt skin" hunched over with pain or cold, just a miserable looking creature.

Poor little fox - she was getting better, got an opportunistic infection that they could not control and they lost her. Either the other two have moved on or they succumbed to their infections - I have not seen them or the parents for a month or two.

5. Yes - they kept the little fox for over two months
The problem is that we have a great habitat - but it is getting to be isolated. So the animals do well here, over breed and our farm cannot support the offspring.

We now have an over population of deer. I will for the first time in the 30+ years we've owned the place allow a hunter to take a doe or two this fall. We have too many and they are getting far too at ease around people. Rather than see them suffer, we''l reduce the herd.
