1. I almost used one a couple years ago but I didn't have a chisel to get the ear gunk off the handset.

4. Technically, ADA requirements specify where pay phones are required to be.
Not that I use them.

6. last Tuesday
I called my son on his cellphone to come and get me at the Courthouse. It took a while to find one, and when I did it wasn't in a prominent place. There were two phones but only one was working. I called and he answered but he couldn't hear me and I couldn't hear him, but he was expecting my call so he came to get me.

Before that I can't remember the last time I used one.

7. 15 months ago when I had to call up Verizon because they screwed up
my internet and phone, I was between cell phones at the time. I passed 3 pay phones that were broken or otherwise non functional.

9. Been so long i don't remember.
Last week my husband called from a pay phone (forgot his cell) and I didn't recognize the number on the caller id (came up as something really weird)so I didn't answer. He needed me to shut off the pool pump...he had to turn around and come home. Almost ended very badly (the pump).

14. About ten years ago I had to use one at our
community college. A couple of years ago, I wanted a pay phone there because I had forgotten my cell. They didn't have them any more.

Where do they have them these days? I don't recall seeing a pay phone in a long time.

17. About 3 months ago
I was out grocery shopping and realized I didn't want to cook dinner that night. So I used the store's pay phone to order a pizza. I don't own a cell since there is no signal at home and only spotty reception in most places that I frequent. Despite this predicament (which is true for most everyone else around here) there are really very few pay phones to be found these days.

18. Last month, in London.
Because I didn't want to pay roaming charges to A T & T for my Iphone, so I braved it. When pay phones were the only option, I never thought about how disgusting it was to put the receiver so close to your nose and mouth; now I'd bring a can of Lysol with me next time I had to use one.

But are you ready for this? If you have a Skype App on your Iphone or Blackberry, you never have to use a pay phone again during international travel! Even if the person you want to call doesn't have Skype you can use your contacts list and still phone them. You only need to have a WiFi connection, and a few dollars in your Skype account. It literally costs pennies for a Skype call.

Just thought I'd pass that on. Just learned it myself from a young techie friend.
