Passport Issuance and Renewal Fees Go Up July 13th (PSA)
The State Department is increasing the fees for getting and renewing passport books and passport cards next Tuesday, July 13th.

These things are already pretty pricey, and they are going up by quite a bit next Tuesday.

But there is still time. I happened to see an article in the paper about this yesterday because the local Clerk of Court's office is an Acceptance Facility and they were putting the word out so people could do their paperwork now and save some money.

Details are here - http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html

The current fees are here - http://travel.state.gov/passport/fees/fees_837.html

And the fees as of next Tuesday are here - http://travel.state.gov/passport/fees/fees_5079.html

Went over and did mine today. There were a number of other people doing the same. Not crowded, but pretty busy.

are they going to change the stupid overly patriotic design? I was hoping by my renewal date that lame ass eagle shit would be gone (I still have the old one)

2. Not sure about the designs.
The location I went to was a court clerk's office, and they didn't have any posters or photos up. I know what you mean, but I was more focused on getting in under the wire. Particularly since the single processing fee for getting both the book and the card at the same time apparently is a thing of the past as of next Tuesday.

3. oh well, bottom line I can't afford any of it anyway,
would like to get the family at least border cards, we can't even go to Agua Prieta for lunch anymore.

guess they could all come back across the way so many others do - there are plenty of trails

4. I was able to rationalize it to myself
with the idea that they're good for ten years. I seem to recall a passport I had back in the early 80s was only good for five years. Not sure when they went to ten, but somehow I didn't notice when it happened. The cards are a pretty cool idea, what with the RFID in it and all, but they're not that much use in FL. Got one anyway, because hope springs eternal and all that. (I'm hoping to move, or get a second place ... something, anything ....)
