A cat question
I was spending the night over a friend's house the other night and I was sleeping on the couch. I awoke a couple of times with his cat sitting on my chest and staring right at me. I've had that happen before with someone else's cat. Why do they do that?

2. I thought it might be something like that
Those cats did have evil, maniacal grins on their faces while they were sitting there. ;)

3. If you were snoring
they may be trying to figure out how to get their paws stuffed into your nostrils and mouth at the same time.

4. LOL!
I do snore sometimes I'm told, especially after I've had a few drinks which was why I was spending the night at my friend's house to begin with. So you may be onto something there. :D

9. Possibly two reasons.
First is you were something new in the cat's world and being curious they were checking you out.
Second is you were warm. Cats like to relax in a warm spot, be it in front of the fire, on top of the TV center, etc.

10. Similar thing happened to me at a friends but the cat was trying to sleep on my forehead
during the night. I was afraid it was trying to smother me so I kicked it off onto the floor and it started playing with my feet hanging off the bed. Darn cats!!

11. I watched an episode of "Bones"
And it was stated that a cat will begin eating its dead owner withing 24 hours if it needs a meal. (A loyal dog will wait for much much longer) The cat starts with the eyes because they are soft. Now, whenever I find my cat checking me out when I am sleeping I realize he is determining whether or not I am still breathing and make a point of exhaling loudly. :)

Here is a 20mb clip from the episode http://hotfile.com/dl/53450777/b5c1dc1/CatChow.avi.html

I guess I got the info about the 24hrs. from googling "cat eating people" or something.

Except for the missing pajamas does this look familiar? You might want to check out the rates for a cab ride home next time you go out drinking with your friend. :)

12. Your friend's cat likes you
Cats are good judges of character. It says a lot when someone else's cat takes to you. I'd take it as a compliment if I were you; kitty's saying you're a cool guy.

13. Ever hear the story of the cat in the nursing home who visited patients just before they died?
Cat would just walk in the room and lay on the bed beside one of the patients, and the next day that patient would die. Cat sensed something, apparently.

Nothing to worry about, I'm sure. Drive careful.

Exerpt: Cat Sucks Breath from Sleeping Woman

Published November 28, 2007 by: BG Dellamarie

Road Apple Township, NJ - The so-called myth that cats will suck the breath from a newborn infant, thereby killing it, has been proved partially true. The scene, said Road Apple Township Sheriff's detective Horace Milhausen, "was disturbing and,to be honest, kind of fascinating in a twisted kind of way."

15. I'm going with curiosity and a possible nice place to sleep/lay
My cats do that and then find a place to curl up and sleep.

You were probably just a new and interesting person to check out.

19. There are cat owners and then there are CAT owners ...
The cat owners are the ones who answer your question with the boring, unimaginative, practical explanations (i.e.: "First is you were something new in the cat's world and being curious they were checking you out. Second is you were warm. Cats like to relax in a warm spot, be it in front of the fire, on top of the TV center, etc."

CAT owners will tell you what is really going on inside the cat's head (which, by the way, if you're smart you never ever want to go there ...); i.e.: "They plan to take over the world ..."

And ... that picture gvstn posted is absolutely disgusting and nightmarish!!!

21. The clip is clever
Because they refer to them as feral cats but they all have big eyes like kittens and fluffy hair like they just came from the groomers. It makes it more frightening because they look so innocent just like one's pet.

Hey, it got me googling "cats eating people". http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/1922/will-cats-eat-their-owners

20. They're trying to steal your breath!!
Actually, it means kitty thinks you're soft and sturdy enough for them to lay down on top of you.

Uh unh! It means that they're looking for a ride on the bucking human!

Um, no. It means that they're hungry and they're picking out their own food!

Yeah, well, while there are some reasons they do this, it could be something just as simple as you're sleeping on their bed.

Another reason, depending on the kit's age, is that like human babies, they like listening to your heart beat. It's soothing to them, and reminds them of their own mama.

28. I will keep my soul, the cats can meow away.
Doesn't change my views or choices. What can they do, as long as my soul is safe, the other stuff doesn't really matter.

And I still don't have beer and smokes.
