Post some songs that are about or mention CALIFORNIA!
Rosalita..Bruce Springsteen.

Hold on tight, stay up all night 'cause Rosie I'm comin' on strong
By the time we meet the morning light I will hold you in my arms
I know a pretty little place in Southern California down San Diego way
There's a little cafe where they play guitars all night and day
You can hear them in the back room strummin'
So hold tight baby 'cause don't you know daddy's comin'

1. Led Zeppelin- Going To California
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcfErF3BNQs

Spent my days with a woman unkind, Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine.
Made up my mind to make a new start, Going To California with an aching in my heart.
Someone told me there's a girl out there with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair.
Took my chances on a big jet plane, never let them tell you that they'all are the same.
The sea was red and the sky was grey,I wondered how tomorrow could ever follow today.
The mountains and the canyons started to tremble and shake
as the children of the sun began to awake.

Seems that the wrath of the Gods
Got a punch on the nose and it started to flow;
I think I might be sinking.
Throw me a line if I reach it in time
I'll meet you up there where the path
Runs straight and high.

To find a queen without a king,
They say she plays guitar and cries and sings... la la la la
Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn
Tryin' to find a woman who's never, never, never been born.
Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams,
Telling myself it's not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.

63. One of my favorite songs.
It has a few different ways to look at it.

Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn
Tryin' to find a woman who's never, never, never been born.
Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams,
Telling myself it's not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.

I have lots of thoughts on that song, can listen to it for hours and hours.

3. Bad Religion - Land of Competition
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh6h4tBGmLQ

"Land Of Competition"

See there's a girl who's afraid of the world so she stays at home.
Also a boy who seems so lost in his joy, he's all alone.
The camera's on them, they're in the land of competition.
Southern California air feeds them.
And they know they are best 'cuz of the way they are dressed,
But you can bet you are not welcome in their home.

See there's a girl who sits and watches the world from her blue screen.
Also a boy who truly wants to destroy his hometown scene.
They both want to travel to the land of competition.
Southern California will destroy them.
And they won't be the best, they'll be the poseurs who dress
Like the plastic idiots who they copy.

Tell me what do you need to make you happy? Indeed, is it out of your reach?
Beware of number one, see all the damage it has done, there are so few of them.
You won't find to many in the land of competition.
Southern California doesn't breed them.
If you just want the best turn to yourself for the rest
And forget about the ones who "have it all."
Be careful of the ones who "have it all."
Be careful of the ones who "have it all."
Forget about the ones who "have it all."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ujnz0S3uz38

Don’t worry, hey, no need for you to hide among the trees
Come into the light and you’ll be free
Don’t scurry, hey, it’s such a lonely life up in the hills
The valley’s gonna cure your every ill
Don’t worry, hey, I know that you are lost but you’ll be found
God willing we are California bound
God willing we are California bound

No, I never will hate you
I just want to show you the one truth
And spread my love all around

Don’t worry, don’t bring yourself down
Don’t let your mind chase you like a hound
Don’t worry, don’t bring yourself down
We’re coming today to save your town

17. Head Carolina, Tails California
Jo Dee Messina Heads Carolina Tails California

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVXx8ktZE9w&feature=related

Baby, what do you say we just get lost?
Leave this one horse townlike two rebels without a cause.
I got people in Boston.
Ain't your daddy still in Des Moines?
We can pack up tomorrow.
Tonight, let's flip a coin

Heads, Carolina Tails, California.
Somewhere greener, somewhere warmer.
Up in the mountains, down by the ocean.
Where? It don't matter, as long as we're goin'
Somewhere together. I've got a quarter.
Heads, Carolina Tails, California.

We can load what we own in the back of a U-haul van.
Couple modern day Moses', searchin for the promised land.
We can go four hundred miles before we stop for gas.
We can drive for a day, and then we'll take a look at the map.

Heads, Carolina Tails, California.
Somewhere greener, somewhere warmer.
Up in the mountains, down by the ocean.
Where? It don't matter, as long as we're goin'
Somewhere together. I've got a quarter.
Heads, Carolina Tails, California.

We're gonna get outta here if we gotta ride a Greyhound bus.
Boy, we're bound to outrun the bad luck that's tailin' us

Heads, Carolina Tails, California.
Somewhere greener, somewhere warmer.
Up in the mountains, down by the ocean.
Where? It don't matter, as long as we're goin'
Somewhere together. I've got a quarter.
Heads, Carolina Tails, California.

O---oh, California! Carolina! California!

Going back to California
So many good things around.
Don't want to leave California
The sun seems to never go down.
Some people may treat you ugly,
Some treat you beautiful too.
That's the way life is all over-
Look for the good things for you.
California, there's a good place to be.
California, that's where I'm feeling so free.
California, there's a good place for home.
California, I'll be back there before long.

26. Do Re Mi by Woody Guthrie
Do Re Mi

Lots of folks back East, they say, is leavin' home every day,
Beatin' the hot old dusty way to the California line.
'Cross the desert sands they roll, gettin' out of that old dust bowl,
They think they're goin' to a sugar bowl, but here's what they find
Now, the police at the port of entry say,
"You're number fourteen thousand for today."

Oh, if you ain't got the do re mi, folks, you ain't got the do re mi,
Why, you better go back to beautiful Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Georgia, Tennessee.
California is a garden of Eden, a paradise to live in or see;
But believe it or not, you won't find it so hot
If you ain't got the do re mi.

You want to buy you a home or a farm, that can't deal nobody harm,
Or take your vacation by the mountains or sea.
Don't swap your old cow for a car, you better stay right where you are,
Better take this little tip from me.
'Cause I look through the want ads every day
But the headlines on the papers always say:

If you ain't got the do re mi, boys, you ain't got the do re mi,
Why, you better go back to beautiful Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Georgia, Tennessee.
California is a garden of Eden, a paradise to live in or see;
But believe it or not, you won't find it so hot
If you ain't got the do re mi.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZTQ7xlFFA8

So I found myself in the sun, oh yeah
A hell of a place to end a run, oh yeah

California, I'm fine
Somebody check my brain

California's all right
Somebody check my brain

Check my brain

I walk these streets, I creep and I fall, oh yeah
When she sang I answered the call, oh yeah

California, I'm fine
Somebody check my brain

California's all right
Somebody check my brain

Ahhhhhhh
Tears that filled my bong
Ahhhhhhh
Years expended gone

I hung my guns and put 'em away, oh yeah
The trick of the trade, and by the way, oh yeah

California, I'm fine
Somebody check my brain

California's all right
Somebody check my brain

Ahhhhhhh
Tears that filled my bong
Ahhhhhhh
Years expended gone
Ahhhhhhh
Tears that filled my bong
Ahhhhhhh
Years expended gone

Check my brain (x3)

37. The Last Resort
It closes the Eagles' 'Hotel California' album, and is a better song about the state than the title track.

I also think it's the best vocal performance ever delivered by Henley until his solo career.

She came from Providence,
the one in Rhode Island
Where the old world shadows hang
heavy in the air
She packed her hopes and dreams
like a refugee
Just as her father came across the sea
She heard about a place people were smilin'
They spoke about the red man's way,
and how they loved the land
And they came from everywhere
to the Great Divide
Seeking a place to stand
or a place to hide

Down in the crowded bars,
out for a good time,
Can't wait to tell you all,
what it's like up there
And they called it paradise
I don't know why
Somebody laid the mountains low
while the town got high

Then the chilly winds blew down
Across the desert
through the canyons of the coast, to
the Malibu
Where the pretty people play,
hungry for power
to light their neon way
and give them things to do

Some rich men came and raped the land,
Nobody caught 'em
Put up a bunch of ugly boxes, and Jesus,
people bought 'em
And they called it paradise
The place to be
They watched the hazy sun, sinking in the sea

You can leave it all behind
and sail to Lahaina
just like the missionaries did, so many years ago
They even brought a neon sign: "Jesus is coming"
Brought the white man's burden down
Brought the white man's reign

Who will provide the grand design?
What is yours and what is mine?
'Cause there is no more new frontier
We have got to make it here

We satisfy our endless needs and
justify our bloody deeds,
in the name of destiny and the name of God

And you can see them there,
On Sunday morning
They stand up and sing about
what it's like up there
They call it paradise
I don't know why
You call someplace paradise,
kiss it goodbye

This song also famous for the envelope filter used by Jerry Garcia (the wah wah sound)on the lead guitar. That filter is now known as as the Jerry Pedal.

65. As well as "Promised Land"
I left my home in Norfolk Virginia, California on my mind.
Straddled that Greyhound, it rode me past Raleigh, and on across Caroline.

Stopped in Charlotte and bypassed Rock Hill, and we never was a minute late.
We was ninety miles out of Atlanta by sundown, rollin' 'cross the Georgia state.

Had motor trouble it turned into a struggle, half way 'cross Alabam,
the 'hound broke down left us all stranded in downtown Birmingham.

Straight off bought me a through train ticket, right across Mississippi clean
And I was on the midnight flyer out of Birmingham
Smoking into New Orleans.

Somebody help me get out of Louisiana
Just help me get to Houston town.
People are there who care a little 'bout me
And they won't let the poor boy down.

Sure as she bore me, she bought me a silk suit, put luggage in my hands,
And I woke up high over Albuquerque
On a jet to the promised land.

Workin' on a T-bone steak a la carte,
Flying over to the Golden State;
When the pilot told us in thirteen minutes
We'd be headin' in the terminal gate.

Swing low sweet chariot, come down easy
Taxi to the terminal zone;
Cut your engines, cool your wings,
And let me make it to the telephone.

Los Angeles give me Norfolk Virginia,
Tidewater four ten oh nine
Tell the folks back home this is the promised land callin'
And the poor boy's on the line.

43. L.A. -- Elliott Smith
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-QdY2BJ0Xo

The gentleman's in the lane
Spinning his hat on a cane
Stepping out, out for a change
Good morning all, it's a beautiful day
The generals are winning the war
Seemed suicidal before you came along
Now, now
I'll protect you, long as you'll stay

LA
Morning had to come, I'd be walking in the sun
Living in the day
But last night I was about to throw it all away

If patience started a band
I'd be her biggest fan
Look at me, I'm talking to you
I don't want the lead in your play
The star's just a part of the scene
The gentleman in green
Paying off, out on the street
I can't go home, it's not on my way

LA
Things I've never done, cars parked in the sun
Living in the day
But last night I was about to throw it all away
Last night I was about to throw it all away
Last night I was about to throw it all away
Last night I was about to throw it all away

...from the land of California to my sweet home, Chicago. The most popular version of the song, by the Blues Brothers, changes the lyrics to "...that same ol' place, sweet home Chicago," but that isn't the way it was written by the great Robert Johnson.

And if you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.

46. "I'm considering a move to LA" Art Brut
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoplpOVeYKg

There's not much glam about the English weather
There's nothing left keeping us together
Sunshine on a rainy day
Makes me want to move away
I think I've got it sorted
I'm going to get myself deported
I'm considering a move to LA
(He's considering a move to LA)
(x3)

Hang around with Axl Rose
Buy myself some brand new clothes
Everything is gonna be just fine
I hear the murder rate is in decline
Get me a southern accent
Maybe grab a piece of action

I'm considering a move to LA
(He's considering a move to LA)
(x3)

When I get off the plane
The first thing I'm gonna do is
Strip naked to the waist
And ride my Harley Davidson
Up and down Sunset street
I may even get a tattoo
My problems are never gonna find me
I'm not sending one letter
or even a postcard back
I'm drinking Henessey
With Morrissey
On a beach
Out of reach
Somewhere very far away

I'm considering a move to LA
(He's considering a move to LA)
(x3)

49. Route 66
Well if you ever plan to motor west
Just take my way that's the highway that's the best
Get your kicks on Route 66

Well it winds from Chicago to L.A.
More than 2000 miles all the way
Get your kicks on Route 66

Well goes from St. Louie down to Missouri
Oklahoma City looks oh so pretty
You'll see Amarillo and Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona don't forget Winona
Kingman, Barstow, San Bernadino

Would you get hip to this kindly tip
And go take that California trip
Get your kicks on Route 66

Well goes from St. Louie down to Missouri

51. Frank Zappa had a ton of them:
Flakes:

Flakes! Flakes!
Flakes! Flakes!

They don't do no good
They never be workin'
When they oughta should
They waste your time
They're wastin' mine
California's got the most of them
Boy, they got a host of them
Swear t'God they got the most
At every business on the coast
Swear t'God they got the most
At every business on the coast
They got the Flakes

Flakes! Flakes!

They can't fix yer brakes
You ask 'em, "Where's my motor?"
"Well it was eaten by snakes . . ."
You can stab 'n' shoot 'n' spit
But they won't be fixin' it
They're lyin' an' lazy
They can be drivin' you crazy
Swear t'God they got the most
At every business on the coast
Swear t'God they got the most
At every business on the coast

I asked as nice as I could
If my job would
Somehow be finished by Friday
Well, the whole damn weekend
Came 'n' went, Frankie

'N'they didn't do nothin'
But they charged me double for Sunday
You know, no matter what you do
They gonna cheat 'n' rob you
Then they'll send you a bill
That'll get your senses reelin'
And if you do not pay
They got computer collectors
That'll get you so crazy
Til your head'll go through th' ceilin'
Yes it will!

I'm a moron 'n' this is my wife
She's frosting a cake
With a paper knife
All what we got here's
American made
It's a little bit cheesey,
But it's nicely displayed
Well we don't get excited when it
Crumbles 'n' breaks
We just get on the phone
And call up some Flakes
They rush on over
'N' wreck it some more
'N' we are so dumb
They're linin' up at our door
Well, the toilet went crazy
Yesterday afternoon
The plumber he says
"Never flush a lampoon!"
This great information
Cost me half a week's pay
And the toilet blew up
Later on the next day ay-eee-ay
Blew up the next day WOO-OOO

We are millions 'n' millions
We're coming to get you
We're protected by unions
So don't let it upset you
Can't escape the conclusion
It's probably God's Will
That civilization
Will grind to a standstill
And we are the people
Who will make it all happen
While yer children is sleepin',
Yer puppy is crappin'
You might call us Flakes
Or something else you might coin us
But we know you're so greedy
That you'll probably join us
We're comin' to get you, we're comin' to get you
We're comin' to get you, we're comin' to get you
We're comin' to get you, we're comin' to get you
We're comin' to get you, we're comin' to get you

56. Desperadoes Under The Eaves
...by Warren Zevon.

I was sitting in the Hollywood Hawaiian Hotel
I was staring in my empty coffee cup
I was thinking that the gypsy wasn't lyin'
All the salty margaritas in Los Angeles
I'm gonna drink 'em up

And if California slides into the ocean
Like the mystics and statistics say it will
I predict this motel will be standing until I pay my bill

Don't the sun look angry through the trees
Don't the trees look like crucified thieves
Don't you feel like Desperados under the eaves
Heaven help the one who leaves

Still waking up in the mornings with shaking hands
And I'm trying to find a girl who understands me
But except in dreams you're never really free
Don't the sun look angry at me

I was sitting in the Hollywood Hawaiian Hotel
I was listening to the air conditioner hum
It went mmmmmm..
........................... Look away..........................................
(Look away down Gower Avenue, Look away..

57. California Blues
From Cornbread Nation
(Jimmie Rodgers/APRS/BMI)

I got the California blues and I'm sure they're gonna leave you here
I got the California blues I'm sure they're gonna leave you here
I might rob you blind, I ain't got no railroad fare

I'm going to California where they sleep out every night
I'm going to California where they sleep out every night
You know the New York women they don't know how to treat me right

You know the water in California tastes just like cherry wine
The water in California it tastes just like cherry wine
You just jump in the water and then you stay tied all the time

Now let me tell you something good gal you don't know
Let me tell you something good gal you don't know
I'm an easy ridin' poppa, I got a home wherever I go
Wherever I go

Now if your house catches fire and there ain't no water round
If your house catches fire and there ain't no water round
Push my suitcase out the window and let the fool house burn on down

Now I went to the gypsy woman down at the fortune teller's place
I went to the woman at the fortune teller's place
Well she read my mind and then she slapped my face

I got the California blues and I'm sure they're gonna leave you here
I got the California blues I'm sure they're gonna leave you here
I might rob you blind, I ain't got no railroad fare

she had to leave
los angeles
all her toys wore out in black and her boys had too
she started to hate every nigger and jew
every mexican that gave her lotta shit
every homosexual and the idle rich
she had to get out
she gets confused
flying over the dateline her hands turn red
cause the days change at night change in an instant the days
change at night change in an instant
she had to leave
los angeles
she found it hard to say goodbye to her own best friend
she bought a clock on hollywood blvd the day she left
it felt sad she had to get out
