A question about long hair
I was out of conditioner today and didn't condition my hair. Now my hair looks healthier...it just looks better. Should I quit using conditioner or is this a temporary thing until my hair completly dries out?

1. I dunno.

But I don't use shampoo. I use a conditioner without all the harmful parabens and sulfates in it (harmful for both you and the environment.) I wet my hair and put conditioner on it, finish my shower and then rinse it. This is the best my hair has looked and felt in years.

:hi:

Edited to add that I have long, very curly hair.

4. So you wash your hair with conditioner?
It doesn't make it appear flat and heavy? If that's the case, I'm all for trying this. I read about the sulfate thing recently but have yet to pick up the non-sulfate stuff... if this conditioner idea works, well then... :woohoo: one less thing to buy!

BTW, I pulled out my conditioner bottle and checked... no sulfates! If this works for me, you will be my hero!!! I have long, thick wavy/curly hair too. And very poor water pressure. Rinsing takes forever so one less step would be great.

5. Yep. Wash my hair with conditioner.
What about parabens (methyl, propyl) in your conditioner?

I've been doing this for several months now and it works great. Sounds like your hair is like mine. It's not very oily, so I only have to "wash" it about every three days.

Try it out. Can't hurt. :hi:

6. Definitely going to try
And just checked. No parabens either. I looked for all 3 words you provided. I hope it works for me too. Thanks for the tip!

8. I hope it works out for you, too.
People are so unaware of how toxic shampoo is for them and the environment.

Glad I could help. :hi:

2. Buildup
You could just have buildup on your hair--conditioner especially tends to do that. I have very fine hair (but a lot of it), and I use a clarifying shampoo at least once, sometimes twice, a week. You might try that, to get rid of the buildup, and then you can do your regular hair routine and it'll look healthier.

11. An apple cider vinegar rinse also works wonders.
My hair feels so soft and healthy after the rinse!

14. I do this too
The rinse closes the cuticle on the hair shaft and makes the hair smoother, sometimes no conditioner is needed at all. And it's all natural, so it's all good!

3. I condition every other wash.
Every other day. It's also good to switch up your shampoo every month or so.

7. I only use conditioner if it's really dry out.
I also make sure I don't use hot water, a neutral shampoo (not a lot of chemicals to irritate the scalp), and I rinse twice after shampooing; once to get the shampoo out, and again with cooler lukewarm water to "soften" the tangles out.
And I twist, towel, then braid the damp hair. I started doing that when I was in a waiting room and read an article Jane Seymore did back in the early 90's on how she took care of her knee-length hair.
I've got thick hair that grows quickly (even now that I'm 25 for the second time) that has a lot of wave, and never had a problem with not using conditioner, except when it's very dry. The conditioner is more for my scalp than it is for the hair, anyway.

15. That is wonderful! Use it for hair and body:)
The peppermint was harsh, even after watering it down. But my skin is extremely sensitive.

The no fragrance formula is much better for me.

16. i've just started using dr bronners
and i LOVE it. i use it for my hair, but it leaves it ''waxy" so i've been using a diluted apple cider vinegar rinse as well.
