My dad.
Oh what the hell.
My dad bailed on us circa 1944.
Maybe 1945.
I dunno.
Somewhere around there.
I was 3 or 4 years old.

From my mom I never heard why.
She never said a word against him.

In my late 50s, from an elder cousin who I'd recently become acquainted with, I learned why.

The short form is that he fell in love with someone else.
He was stationed in Honolulu and she was a civilian employee in his office.
So he came home on a furlough from the war and broke the bad news to my mom.

Shit happens.
:-(

I've tried to be the father to my child that he never was to me.
I think she would tell you that I did just a little bit better than he did.

Happy Father's Day dads.
:toast:

1. Happy father's day to you!!
Trying to be a better dad is an outstanding goal! And you will succeed in many ways. Don't worry about that.
