We weren't close, so I can't say that I miss him, but live surely is weird without him in it.

8. last July 29th...My 1st father's day without him. Stopped
by the cemetery and saw lots of families that had brought lawn chairs and were hanging out. Some were having picnics. Not my thing, but if it made them feel like they were including dad in the celebration, I can understand.

last summer when I received word that he had passed away of a heart attack. Very sad day. He would have been 87 on August 1st, just three days later. That last week of July/1st week of August will be a sad one.

So long ago, and I was so young, I don't really remember Fathers' Day with my father.

We did remember my grandfather on Fathers' Day, but he died in 1983 at the age of 97.

It's kinda hard when your kids want to do things with you on father's day and I'm feeling down wishing I could at least call him on the phone. I still think about him every day and about once a month or so I have a dream where I'm talking to him just like he was still around.

I wish I'd listened to my gut instincts that day. The last time I saw him alive was when he waved goodbye to us as we left to take the kids camping over Memorial weekend. Something inside quietly said that was the last time I'd see him and I blew it off.

We didn't make it back in time. The call came the minute we got in the door that Monday. He'd had a heart attack. We rushed to the hospital but it was too late.

I miss him. He'd be 93 this coming August. He loved Father's Day and his birthday. If he were still here, he'd be getting his favorite suspenders as a gift from one of his grandkids.

14. Chet Atkins, "I Still Can't Say Goodbye"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l71KAY0FBcI

When I was young, my Dad would say Come on Son let's go out and play
Sometimes it seems like yesterday

And I'd climb up the closet shelf When I was all by myself
Grab his hat and fix the brim Pretending I was him

No matter how hard I try
No matter how many tears I cry
No matter how many years go by
I still can't say goodbye

He always took care of Mom and me. We all cut down a Christmas tree
He always had some time for me

Wind blows through the trees
Street lights, they still shine bright
Most things are the same
but I miss my Dad tonight

I walked by a Salvation Army store Saw a hat like my daddy wore
Tried it on when I walked in Still trying to be like him

No matter how hard I try
No matter how many years go by
No matter how many tears I cry
I still can't say goodbye

And it seems so strange to me that right now, I am 12 years older than dad was when he passed away.

Just the end of February. First Father's Day without him was difficult. Sat at his gravesite in the cemetery for a long time yesterday.

Sorry to see so many here with such a loss.

He died with several others in the crash of a B25 bomber near Los Angeles. His father died of heart failure seven days later.
I had a "Wonder Years" childhood in Orange County, but it came to a sharp close with his passing. He was my Little League coach
and best friend. I have thought of him often and wonder where I and the rest of the family might have wound up had he lived.

taught us how to live our lives by example.

And I had a severe pang for my father this morning. I remember waking up early and chit chatting with him when I was a kid. On my birthday, which is today, I used to wake up and he'd make me breakfast and tell me how glad he was I was born. He was always quick to laugh, loved us fiercely, and always put us first.
I miss you, Daddy. I love you, and wish I could have known you as an adult.
Duckie
