The Enneagram Personality Test
http://www.enneagraminstitute.com/

Anyone here know much about the Enneagram? I tested as a 5 with a 4 wing.

I don't put a whole lot of stock in it, but I find it fascinating nevertheless. It's good to learn about personalities and similarities and differences between them.

1. Oh, it's an okay personality test. Some legitimate therapists use it.
It's a little outre for some. But as with most personality tests (in my opinion) it just gives a language and a sense of legitimacy to what you already know, which can be interesting and helpful. One nice thing about tests like these are that they're non-pathologizing.

2. I find it pretty interesting
Helen Palmer, one of the more prominent teachers, was accused of ripping off the Enneagram work and was sued years ago for it.

Oscar Ichazo is the originator of the Enneagram of Personality types - the teacher that Helen Palmer's and others are based on.

My primary fixation is a *1*.

4. Well, in the Ennegram system I studied
the *1* point is The Perfectionist. So I am very attached to things being perfect, and I get thrown off when they don't. LOL

5. Ah.
I understood Ones to be perfectionistic, critical, and self-righteous, but also with a very strong sense of right and wrong.

6. Yes, can be critical too
The Moralist - point 8 - has aspects of a strong sense of right and wrong.

Test indicates I'm a helper.

Always a peripheral, dang it.

10. I had a former boss who swore by that....
...even had a companywide, mandatory attendance meeting on it. For months we would refer to ourselves by our personality types ("Now, remember, Joe is a #1 while you're a #3, which means you will have issues with #4...") We treated it as a big joke out of earshot of the boss.

11. not too impressed with the short test
came up as a 9 - "Peacemaker", which really isn't me.

Problem is, I think, a lot of the questions aren't an either-or kind of thing. Both can apply.

My 2nd highest ranking was a 6 - "Loyalist", which is much more descriptive of me, I think.

More specifically, according to other tests, I'm a 1 with a 9 wing.

Yes, I often can be a perfectionist, self-righteous jerk.

Ones are people of practical action—they wish to be useful in the best sense of the word. On some level of consciousness, they feel that they “have a mission” to fulfill in life, if only to try their best to reduce the disorder they see in their environment.

Although Ones have a strong sense of purpose, they also typically feel that they have to justify their actions to themselves, and often to others as well. This orientation causes Ones to spend a lot of time thinking about the consequences of their actions, as well as about how to keep from acting contrary to their convictions. Because of this, Ones often persuade themselves that they are “head” types, rationalists who proceed only on logic and objective truth. But, the real picture is somewhat different: Ones are actually activists who are searching for an acceptable rationale for what they feel they must do. They are people of instinct and passion who use convictions and judgments to control and direct themselves and their actions
