There Used to be Threads Like This on DU (sigh)
In the bad old days of 2001 and afterwards, people used to carry on about Oscar the Mixed Animal, "I Am the Son of God, Ask Me Anything," and all kinds of long, memorable threads. Despite the Nader wars there were always plenty of hijinks.

I hope it's not in bad taste to post something rambunctious from another source. I guess it just made me nostalgic. Maybe the political threads all need to be deleted every once in a while.

9. Once I joined DU, GD was where I hung out and put in my five cents' worth.
GD and LBN are still the first forums I check when I log on. I was actually a little hesitant to step into the Lounge at first.

But I've learned that there's no place like the Lounge when I need a shoulder to lean on (Mosche the Cat!); whenever there are threads with someone in pain there are so many kind people sending hugs, support and advice. Not to mention that it's *the* place to be silly and relax.

Good morning, Lounge! :hi:

12. yeah, and still up at 3 AM sending blues songs back and forth with SNOWBALL
Edited on Sun Jun-13-10 03:59 AM by abq e streeter
although I should be doing something more productive while I can't sleep.... oh well...

P.S. on edit--did you see the thread on Dock Ellis's no-hitter? 40 years ago yesterday; hadn't realized it was the anniversary of it. A fuckin' no hitter in the major leagues while tripping his brains out. Mind -boggling ( literally)

13. I really ought to be cleaning this apartment since it's 11 a.m. over here, but instead I offer
Guitar Slim: The Things I Used To Do. An all-time favorite.

Say "hi" to Snowball for me! How about we attempt to listen to one particular song at the same time... You in NM, me in Germany, and Snowball in I-don't-know-where?

Is there a you tube of it? You can post it in her blues thread, and say hi too, thereby killing two stones with one bird ( or something like that).I'll stay awake long enough to listen to it, and then it's FINALLY time to go to sleep...

20. I think I got it.
Guitar Slim:

And another one that's close to my heart... Elmore James's "It Hurts Me Too"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBA2REoRD98

Let me know if this works, it's my first go at it.

Where is Snowball's Blues Thread? I'm such a ditz when it comes to things like that.

17. What's a no-hitter? Does that have to do with women? Or is it baseball?
If it is baseball... I'm hopelessly lost.

I think baseball is a sport you have to grow up with. I asked my son many years ago what the person with the piece of lumber was doing out there. My child - my own flesh and blood - told me to just be quiet and stop embarrassing him. Hrmf.

yes it's baseball. A no hitter is pitching an entire game without giving up a hit. Certainly not unheard of, but it's very rare; there are an average of maybe 2 or 3 a year out of well over 2,000 thousand games ( 30 teams playing 162 games , so...) I'll cut you SOME slack for both being a European and a girl, but you DID live in America for many years, so only cutting you partial slack. But to even play in a major league baseball game while on acid, and then throw a no hitter almost defies belief, but it actually did happen....And SNOWBALL is still up ( I think), she's be thrilled to get a hello from someone else besides me.

27. That's really weird; as god or goddess is my witness I was going to post this tonight
but decided not to ...I do have it as one of my you tube "favorites". I have performed this in a horn section backing my dear friend Joanie singing ( we are very close; like brother and sister) And why the hell am I still awake???? By the way, here's a link to Joanie's band's website... There is one picture of me playing the harmonica in the pictures section and if you click on the CD link, there are snippets of songs...

http://www.combospecial.com/CDPAGE.html

and here's the band we sometimes do Rather Go Blind in; we were very popular locally in the 70's and still to this day, do a reunion show every December. Here is a video shot at I think the 2007 (?)one, but Joanie is not singing lead. I am singing harmony but am barely on camera. I guess the cameraman was afraid my devastating good looks would overshadow the glamour of Joanie ,Kathy and Denise, but it's still a good showcase of the band ( Cadillac bob and The Rhinestones). I'm also sort of embarrassed ( of course not as much as not knowing what a no-hitter is, but still...) that at the end of the song, my harmony vocals ( which is mostly all I do with these guys; back-up singing) went a little flat, and if you listen closely, you can hear it...I did the whole damn thing in my normal voice and then screwed up big time by singing falsetto near the end. At least I learned my lesson...I've sung in my normal voice on all harmonies with them ( except the shoop-shoops and sock it to me sock it to me's on Respect) since then.

23. Well..... excuuuuuuuse the hell straight out of me.
Would you please tell me what it means to "pitch a game without giving up a hit"? All I've ever hit was a bong.

I suppose the pitcher is the guy with the ball, who then throws it at the person wielding the piece of lumber, who then keeps missing the ball and spits and grabs his crotch?

they kick you out the guy union if you don't do that while playing baseball (or almost any other male-bonding type of situation).

Not everybody liked his schtick. That last 10% can spoil a lot of fun.

What's funny is that it was no worse than this:

6. I Kind of Like the Fact
that the political orientation is split right down the middle. You can post as a Democrat against right-wing stupidity and feel good about it without some Marxist or Greener cat saying you're a corporate tool. Especially when they're spouting right-wing economic populism and thinking it's progressive.

8. OMG! I remember Oscar!
That was during my many years of lurkdom, when I didn't have internet access at home and didn't want to log in at work.

Could we somehow resurrect that thread? For the old-timers to reminisce about the golden days of DU, and for the newcomers to enjoy?
