Something bugging me about new Karate Kid movie...
It's about a kid learning KUNG FU in CHINA.

Someone didn't do their research.

1. Just having the Demon Spawn of Scientologist Will Smith in it
Is enough to deter me.

5. I never liked him
Even before he expressed any agreement with some of their... tenets.

I just don't like him. Some actors I have changed my mind about over 20+ years (Depp, for example), but not Smith or his ubiquitous wife and kid.

24. Interesting. I thought everyone liked Will Smith.
I thought that it's because he's so likable--and nonthreaetning to white people--that he was cast as the lead in a lot of big movies and has become a huge box office sensation.

6. What? You're honestly trashing someone's kid because you don't like the father?
That's pathetic.

9. Right, he learned karate in America before the move.
Karate sucks. That's why he still gets his ass kicked and Jackie Chan feels sorry for him.

So "karate kid" is mocking.

10. No, PornoSyrup is right.
"the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts "the karate kid" on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life."

8. I guess it won't have that gutsy realism of the first one
in which Ralph Macchio actually beats someone up after waxing a car a few times, despite looking like he'd lose a fight to his shoelace.

18. I didn't see it as JUST an attack on liberals.
I don't know, I say I didn't like it, but I laughed my ass off all through it, and I still chuckle from time to time over the whole "Dicks fuck pussies" routine. Even the sex scene made me laugh, while I was trying not to barf.

So my feelings are mixed. :)

23. I read somewhere that all the actors
in the movie called this flick "The Kungfu Kid" during filming. Plus, everywhere outside the U.S. this movie is being advertiesed as "The Kungfu Kid".

25. In Asian markets it's being titled "The Kung Fu Kid"
I'm pissed that they're not casting Ralph Macchio as the lead. I mean, sure, he's 48 years old now. But he still looks like a kid. No one owns that role like Ralphie.
