In my absence, we saved a Cocker Spaniel from death row at the pound....
We named him Leroy Jenkins, after a crazy character on World of Warcraft. He's a sweet old man, probably close to 13 or 14. Unfortunately, he's been diagnosed with early kidney failure. But you wouldn't know he was sick. He is sweet and bouncy and full of life. So, meet my sweet boy Leroy!

If you're wondering why he's shaved, he was all matted from living on the street. And we keep him short because if not, he's just way too hot.
He's a lovable boy.

1. My dear Duckie!
Aw, what a sweet face! I'm sure that however long you have him, he will be happy...

Blessings on you for taking him into your home!

PS..You're welcome, sweetie...

3. You are so sweet, lady!
Thank you bunches!!!

If you could meet this dog. He's so sweet. And I just want to cuddle with him all the time. And I do kiss him a lot. He's hilarious and a little clumsy. You should see him with Skip. He just follows him around like a three year old does with his dad because so wants to be like him. And we call him our little protector. He's always diligent and so good at his job. If I'm home sick, he lays in the doorway of the bedroom with an eye on the door and one on me.
And while we will be sad when he goes, we will be happy to know that we gave a sweet baby a happy home to live in for the last year or so of his life.
Sorry for the ramble.
Duckie

2. Good for you
Many people don't want to rescue older dogs. We had an old collie that we rescued from the pound, gave him a great year before he crossed the Bridge.

6. Good on you!
We rescued a geriatric cairn terrier some years ago. He is gone now, but was a typical cairn, sweet, affectionate and full of himself. Even when blind and nearly deaf, he joined in when the other dogs barked at something, although most of the time he was facing in the wrong direction and had no idea what he was barking at. For the few years we had him, Beau had a pack, lots of love, food and treats and a bed to sleep on. He got lucky and so did we. I miss him still.

8. I had 2 Cockers. They are GREAT, smart, playful, and love deeply.
The first one was when I was 5 and she lived 13 years. The 2nd was in my late 20s & 30s when I was away a lot, struggling to make a living, so he was at my parents. I vaguely knew that spaniels are retrievers, but didn't realize how powerful the traits are, the things they are bred for. Basically, he was crazy for fetching the tennis ball. So, somewhat late in his life, when I threw the ball in a park and it bounced off a rock into a pond, he LEAPT like superman right into the water and fetched it to me. I then started throwing it into the water and he was just ecstatic! Once when my holiday was over he THREW HIMSELF ON THE FLOOR and sounded like he was sobbing.

A year or two ago, there was a Cocker in the Sunday paper as being in the pound, and, as the pic shows, he was PISSED, like, "This is WAY beneath me!1" I tried, but he was taken by the time I called. Here he is, all P-O-ed:

12. I don't think Leroy was ever taught what a ball is.
He doesn't seem to have any desire to fetch a ball. It totally surprised me.
I love that picture. So glad someone rescued him.

18. He's dripping in it.
When I get up out of my chair, no matter where I've been sitting, he gets into the chair. It's hilarious. I always come back to my desk chair with 27 pounds of sprawled Leroy. And I think he only does it because he knows I will kiss on him and hug him when I get back.

19. Awwww-- Leroy has a certain air about him
The way he's holding his head makes him look very distinguished! Thank you SO much for rescuing Leroy into a loving home. My sweet, precious Libby is a rescue cocker spaniel, and her sister, Emma (now in doggie heaven), was as well. Before that, there was Sadie & her brother Oliver, also rescued. I'm a VERY strong believer in rescue dogs, and older rescue dogs at that! Rescue dogs just KNOW that they've been rescued into a forever home, and you will have more love from them than you ever thought possible-

Congratulations to Leroy on finding a forever home filled with lots of love, cuddles, and kisses!
