Colorado joins the Pac-10
Colorado is headed to the Pac-10 Conference. The news became official this morning with a joint announcment from Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott and CU officials.

"On behalf of The University of Colorado students, faculty, alumni and fans, we are proud to accept this invitation from the Pac-10 and join the most prestigious academic and athletic conference in the nation," said Philip P. DiStefano, chancellor of CU-Boulder.

In leaving the Big 12 behind, CU become the Pac-10's first new member since July 1, 1978.

"This is an historic moment for the Conference, as the Pac-10 is poised for tremendous growth. The University of Colorado is a great fit for the conference both academically and athletically and we are incredibly excited to welcome Colorado to the Pac-10," Scott said in a statement.

The new league will have at least 12 teams, and likely 16. It's not clear who the 12th team will be yet.

1. Teams 12-15 will be the four teams from Texas
Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech... and one whose name escapes me (Baylor?)

Team 16 will be Oklahoma or Kansas, I would guess.

2. OU is apparently looking at the SEC
that would leave Kansas as Team 16, though I've also heard talk about Utah, a much better geographic fit.

3. They've been saying Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.
Those would be Teams 12-16, and with Nebraska poised to bolt to the Big 10, that leaves behind Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor, and Missouri.

I'm excited. My Buffs will be joining the Pac-10 (or Pac-16 or whatever) and beginning a new era for Colorado sports!

24. A&M is on the fence, apparently
The Univ pres wants to join SEC but the coach wants to head to Pac, least that's what was in the Dallas newspaper (which seems to be relying on Austin papers).

I'm thinking OU will follow UT where ever they go..otherwise the huge $$ making UT/OU rivalry/weekend is history (aka Red River showdown).

Unless A&M goes where UT does, there goes our Thanksgiving rivalry game with A&M :(

4. Baylor will be left out
Stanford and USC don't like Baylor.

5. Baylor should go to CUSA
It's really the obvious spot. Rice and Tulane are schools with a similar profile.

Personally, I'd like to see Texas A&M in the SEC. They;d get themselves out from underneath UT's shadow, they have long-standing rivalries with LSU and Arkansas, and would fit in nicely in the western division.

6. Um, what part of "Pacific" does that land-locked college not understand?

Okay, I know the Arizona teams got in somehow, but ... Sheesh!

7. It's largely about academics.
CU is a better academic fit with the Pac-10 than with the Big XII, so the move makes a lot of sense in those regards.

10. the SEC includes kentucky
hardly southeast. This is the beginning of the superconferences. I think within 10-15 years, there will only be 4 major athletic conferences; West (Pac-10), Midwest (Big Ten), Northeast (ACC) and Southeast (SEC)

9. Colorado is the only Big 12 team I'm interested in coming to the Pac-10.
I wouldn't mind them bringing in Utah to even it out, but I really don't want Texas, et al coming into the league.

Texas, Oklahoma etc seem like thugs.

20. Yeah - USC is a great example of that
And, while you may not like their football team, Texas is a very good school academically. (not sure on the 3 other Texas schools)

21. Classy?
Maybe you missed the blatant cheating at USC with Reggie Bush? Or the Oregon team's quarterback getting thrown off the team FOR THEFT? Pac10 is no different than any other league.

17. I like both ASU and CU
even though Colorado St is my second favorite team. I do like all Pac-10 teams except for Arizona and Oregon so there won't be reason to work up any hate for them. :)
