Top Chef Masters, not a spoiler, but OMG!
What happened to Susur's first wife. I remember the incident well.

1. Had to google to see what you meant but yeah, that was a huge deal
Two other interesting bits - there was a sitting US Congressman on that flight, and the incident helped lead to the availability of the GPS system to civilians...

2. As soon as he mention his wife getting shot down I remembered the incident
another curiosity was the flight number; 007.

3. What I find interesting is that it changed my opinion of Susur
I think that they changed the portrayal of Susur on the show as well, from that point he was shown as much more of a compassionate family man, rather than a ruthless competitor complaining about the challenges.

4. The OMG moment is when we find out that
Marcus Samuelsson (highlight to see) won. I thought for sure that Suser had it in the bag, especially after the comments about the final dish.

5. You're right, I was surprised at the final decision
though in my defense, I did post my original message before the episode ended.

That said, I would be happy to eat at any of the contestant's restaurants.

6. I think the winner edged out the others because of the risk taken.
The challenge was to define that chef today, and he more the the others nailed that challenge.

7. You're spot on with that analysis
I question the last losers choice of 3rd challenge protein given his culinary style, not that it didn't look delicious, but I would have expected something that didn't go against what he stands for as a chef
